In this chapter we will examine the development of trade theory form the 17th century to the first half of 20th century. That is, we will go one step further and explain the reason for the difference in the relative commodity prices and comparative advantage between the two nations. Second, we will analyze the effect that international trade has on the earnings of factors of production in the two trading nations.
