用心 愛(ài)心 專(zhuān)心 1 安徽省蚌埠市安徽省蚌埠市 20122012 屆高考英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)題總復(fù)習(xí)精選閱讀理解強(qiáng)化集屆高考英語(yǔ)專(zhuān)題總復(fù)習(xí)精選閱讀理解強(qiáng)化集 3535 閱讀下列短文 從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng) A B C 和 D 中 選出最佳選項(xiàng) A A It happened over three years ago Paddy said helplessly No one answered him or moved for no one knew what to do Just don t tell my mother said Fee numbly And no one did Oh God My poor poor Frank Paddy wiped the tears from his face and said Fee dear pack your things We ll go to see him She half rose before sinking back her eyes in her small white face stared as if dead I can t go she said without a hint of pain yet making everyone feel that the pain was there It would kill him to see me I know him so well his pride his ambition Let him bear the shame alone it s what he wants We ve got to help him keep his secret What good will it do him to see us Paddy was still weeping not for Frank but for the life which had gone from Fee s face for the dying in her eyes Frank had always brought bitterness and misfortune always stood between Fee and himself He was the cause of her withdrawal from his heart and the hearts of his children Every time it looked as if there might be happiness for Fee Frank took it away But Paddy s love for her was as deep and impossible to wipe out as hers was for Frank So he said Well Fee we won t go But we must make sure he is taken care of How about if I write to Father Jones and ask him to look out for Frank The eyes didn t liven but a faint pink stole into her cheeks Yes Paddy do that Only make sure he knows not to tell Frank we found out Perhaps it would ease Frank to think for certain that we don t know 1 Which of the following is true according to the passage A Frank was found guilty of murder because he was a professional boxer B The family didn t find out what happened to Frank until three years later C The jury and the judge disagreed on whether Frank had committed murder D Frank didn t want his family to find out what happened because Paddy disliked him 用心 愛(ài)心 專(zhuān)心 2 2 Paddy cried because he thought A Frank did kill someone and deserved the punishment B Frank should have told Fee what had happened C what had happened to Frank was killing Fee D Frank had always been a man of bad moral character 3 She half rose before sinking back in Paragraph 6 shows that 來(lái)源 GkStK Com A Fee was so heart broken that she could hardly stand up B Fee didn t want to upset Paddy by visiting Frank C Fee couldn t leave her family to go to see Frank D Fee struggled between wanting to see Frank and respecting his wish 4 Which of the following suggests that Fee was deeply shocked by what happened to Frank A Her eyes in her small white face stared as if dead B Let him bear the shame alone it s what he wants C Every time it looked as if there might be happiness for Fee Frank took it away D The eyes didn t liven but a faint pink stole into her cheeks 5 What is Fee s probable relationship with Frank and Paddy A Son and brother B Son and husband C Brother and lover D Lover and husband B B As you sow sow will reap With your perseverance and improvement you are getting closer to success At this stage wait for others to congratulate you on your accomplishment s and compliments graciously Thanks I really worked hard on that prospect I m pleased you recognize my efforts The congratulations and compliments from others will promote you to gain further success 用心 愛(ài)心 專(zhuān)心 3 Self confidence is extremely important in almost every aspect of our lives and it is no wonder that so many people struggle to find it Self confidence really can be learned and built on Besides whether you re working on your own self confidence or building the confidence of people around you it s well worth the effort 6 Those who are truly confident A succeed without effort and hard work B encourage people around to become confident C appear more attractive and thus become successful D gain the confidence of others and feel successful 7 The underlined word mock Para 3 is closest in meaning to A praise B imitate C punish D laugh at 8 When others congratulate us on our achievements we are supposed to A praise them in return B gain further improvement C politely accept the compliments D expect them to congratulate you again 9 Which of the following proverbs best goes with Paragraph 4 A Look before your leap B It is no use crying over spilt milk C Genius is 1 inspiration and 99 perspiration D Learn from past mistakes and avoid future ones 10 The purpose of the text is to A tell people how to become successful B convince people to do what they believe to be right C encourage people to build confidence and achieve success D criticize people who lack confidence and thus fail in their career C C Advertisers tend to think big and perhaps this is why they re always coming in for criticism 批評(píng) Their critics seem to hate or resent them because they have a gift for self promotion and because they have so much money to throw around It s unfair they say that this entirely unproductive industry if we can call it that should absorb millions of pounds each year It only goes to show how much profit the big companies are making Why don t they stop advertising and reduce the price of their goods After all it s the consumer who pays The poor old consumer He d have to pay a great deal more if advertising didn t create mass markets for products It is exactly because of the heavy advertising that consumer goods are so cheap But we get the wrong idea if we think the only purpose of advertising is to sell goods Another equally important function is to inform A great deal of the knowledge we have about household goods comes largely from the advertisements we read Advertisements introduce us to new products or remind us of the existence of ones we already know about Supposing you wanted to buy a washing machine it is more likely 用心 愛(ài)心 專(zhuān)心 4 that you would obtain details about performance price etc from an advertisement Lots of people pretend that they never read advertisements but this claim may be seriously doubted It is hardly possible not to read advertisements these days And what fun they often are too Just think what a railway station or a newspaper would be like without advertisements Would you enjoy gazing at a blank wall or reading railway regulations while waiting for a train Would you like to read only closely printed columns of news in your daily paper A cheerful witty advertisement makes such a difference to a dull wall or a newspaper full of the daily amount of great disasters We must not forget either that advertising makes a positive contribution to our pockets Newspapers commercial radio and television companies could not survive without this source of income The fact that we pay so little for our daily paper or can enjoy so many broadcast programmes is due entirely to the money spent by advertisers Just think what a newspaper would cost if we had to pay its full price Another thing we mustn t forget is the small ads which are actually in every newspaper and magazine What an extremely useful service they perform for the community Just about anything can be accomplished through these columns For instance you can find a job buy or sell a house announce a birth marriage or death in what used to be called the hatch match and dispatch column but so far the most fascinating section is the personal or agony column 讀者來(lái)信專(zhuān)欄 No other item in a newspaper provides such entertaining reading or offers such a deep insight into human nature It s the best advertisement for advertising there is 11 What is the main idea of this passage A The costs of advertisement B Advertisers tend to think big C The benefits of advertisement D Advertisements perform a useful service to communities 12 Why do the critics criticize advertisers A Because customers are poor B Because critics think advertisement is a waste of money C Because advertisers promote products with too much money D Because customers are encouraged to buy more than necessary 13 Which of the following is Not true A Advertisement makes our life colorful B Newspapers are worth more than we pay C Good quality products don t need to be advertised D Advertisement makes contribution to our pockets and we may know everything 14 In what way does the writer try to support his view A ComparisonB Description C Narration D Definition D D 用心 愛(ài)心 專(zhuān)心 5 Which is sillier denying we ever went to the moon or trying to convince the true nonbelievers Once upon a time July 20 1969 to be specific two men got out of their little spaceship and wandered around on the moon for a while Ten more men walked on the moon over the next three and a half years Unfortunately not quite A fair number of Americans think that this whole business of moon landings really is a fairy tale They believe that the landings were a big hoax 騙局 staged in the Mojave Desert to convince everyone that U S technology was the best in the whole wide world Which is the harder thing to do Send men to the moon or make believe we did The fact is the physics behind sending people to the moon is simple You can do it with computers whose entire memory capacities can now fit on chips the size of postage stamps and that cost about as much as well a postage stamp I know you can because we did However last fall NASA considered spending 15 000 on a public relations campaign to convince the unimpressed that Americans had in fact gone to the moon That idea was mostly a reaction to a Fox television program first aired in February 2001 that claimed to expose the hoax The show s creator is a publicity hound 獵狗 who has lived up to the name in more ways than one by hounding Buzz Aldrin the second man on the moon Mr X as I will call him thereby denying him the joyous sight of his name in print recently followed Buzz Aldrin around and called him a thief liar and coward until the 72 year old astronaut finally lost it and hit the 37 year old Mr X in the face Anyway NASA s publicity campaign began to slow down The nonbelievers took the campaign as NASA s effort to hide something while the believers said that 15 000 to convince people that the world was round I mean that we had gone to the moon was simply a waste of money Actually the 15 000 was supposed to pay for an article by James E Oberg an astronomy writer who with Aldrin has contributed to Scientific American If NASA s not paying Oberg perhaps it could put the money to good use by hiring two big guys to drag Neil Armstrong out of the house Armstrong is an extremely private man but he is also the first man on the moon so maybe he has a duty to be a bit more outspoken about the experience Or N
