Thosewhoatethemostwholefoodhada26%lowerriskoffuturedepressionthanthosewhoatetheleastwholefood.Bycontrast,peoplewithadiethighinprocessedfoodhada58%higherriskofdepressionthanthosewhoateadietlowinprocessedfood.
StudyauthorDr.ArchanaSinghManouxpointedouttherewasachancethatthefindingcouldbeexplainedbythelifestylefactortheyhadnotaccountedfor.HealsopointedoutinapaperthataMediterraneandietwasassociatedwithalowerriskofdepression,buttheproblemwiththatisifyouliveinBritain,thelikelihoodofeatingaMediterraneandietisnotveryhigh.
Dr.AndrewMcCulloeh,chiefexecutiveoftheMentalHealthFoundation,said,thisstudyaddstoanexistingbodyofsolidresearchthatshowsthestronglinksbetweenwhatweeatandourmentalhealth.

Nationwide,$165billionworthoffoodiswastedeachyear,accordingtotheNationalResourcesDefenseCouncil.SpokesmanBobKeefesaysthatisabout40%ofthecountry'sentirefoodproduction.Ifwecanreduceourwasteinthiscountryby15%,wecanfeed25millionhungryAmericans.Thatisahugebenefit.ThatiswhatprogramsliketheFoodRecoveryNetworkaredoing.hesaid.
ChristianLifeCenterisoneofthebeneficiaries(受益者)ofthestudents'efforts.BenSlye,theseniorpastor,said,Ithasbeenjustamazingtoseethesestudentstaketheirowntime,theirownvehiclesandgasmoneyandbeabletomakeaneffortlikethis.Eachweekweareablewiththisfoodprobablytofeedoverahundredpeople.

Formanyyoungpeoplewhohavenotbeendirectlyexposedtoviolenceintheirowncommunities,theentertainmentmedia(television,movies,musicandvideogames)providesmanyopportunitiesforthemtoseeandhearviolentexchanges.Researchshowsthatthereareabout5to6violentactsperhouronprimetimeand20to25violentactsonchildren'schannelsonSaturdaymorning.Initsreport,theAmericanPsychologicalAssociation(APA)reportedthatviewingviolenceontelevisionhurtschildreninmanyways.Inparticular,theAPAconcludedthatchildrenmaybecomelesssensitivetothepainandsufferingofothers,bemorefearfuloftheworldaroundthem,bemorelikelytobehaveinaggressiveorharmfulwaystowardsothers,andgraduallyacceptviolenceasawaytosolveproblems.TheAmericanAcademyofChildandAdolescentPsychiatryalsocautionsthatchildrenmayimitatetheviolencetheyobserveontelevision.
