ZengLiansong,acitizenfrom

Rui'an,

Zhejiang.HedesigneditinresponsetoacirculardistributedbythePreparatoryCommitteeoftheNewPoliticalConsultativeConferenceinJuly1949,shortlyaftertheycametopowerfollowingthe

ChineseCivilWar.2,992(or3,012,see

below)entrieswerereceivedforthedesigncompetition,andZeng'sdesignwasputintoapoolof38finalists.Afterseveralmeetingsandslightmodifications,Zeng'sdesignwaschosenasthenationalflag.Thefirstflagwashoistedbythe
