Thisdoctrinemeansthattheinhabitantsofthenewterritoriescandecidethequestionofslaveryfor

themselves.Inappearance,itseemedfair,butinactualpractice,asfarasslaverywasconcerned,the

doctrinedidnotwork.

TheoutcomeofthewarplacedthenortherncapitalistsinsolidcontrolofthefederalgovernmentoftheUS

capitalism.In1865,theThirteenthAmendmenttotheUSConstitutionwasadopted,whichfreedallslaves

throughouttheUnitedStates.
