唐貞元年間，洛陽人李渤與其兄李涉在此隱居讀書，養(yǎng)一白鹿自娛。此鹿通人性，常跟隨左右，且能跋涉數(shù)十里到星子縣城將主人要買的書、紙、筆、墨等如數(shù)購回，故時人稱李渤為白鹿先生，其所居為白鹿洞。后李渤任江州刺史，便在讀書臺舊址創(chuàng)建臺榭。到南唐升元中，在此辦起學(xué)校，稱“廬山國學(xué)”，也就是白鹿洞書院的前身。白鹿洞書院最盛時，有360余間建筑，屢經(jīng)興廢，今尚存禮圣殿、御書閣、朱子祠等。書院內(nèi)，大小院落，交叉有序；亭臺樓閣，古樸典雅；佳花名木，姿態(tài)各異；碑額詩聯(lián)，比比皆是。這充分體現(xiàn)了古書院攻讀經(jīng)史、求索問道、賦詩作聯(lián)、舞文弄墨的特色。SummarystareasyInternetCouldyouseestaratnight?
