TheappreciationoftraditionaloralAmericanIndianliteraturehasbeenlimited,hamperedbypoortranslationsandbythedifficulty,evenintherareculturallysensitiveandaestheticallysatisfyingtranslation,ofcompletelyconveyingtheoriginal’sversedstructure,toneandsyntax.

Yetthosewhostresstheachievementofageneralconsensusamongtheircolonistscannotfullyunderstandthatconsensuswithoutunderstandingtheconflictsthathadtobeovercomeorrepressedinordertoreachit.
