Someoneoncesaid,“Wereeverybodyonearthinvolvedinsomekindofsport,ourworldwouldbefreeofwarforlong.”Startingfromthreethousandyearsago,theancientOlympicGameshaslongbeenaneventnotonlyforcompetitionbutalsoforpeace.Inancienttimes,nowarwasallowedbetweenthecitiesduringtheGames,whichwasrathersurprisingtomesinceIcouldhardlyimaginewarriorsactallyputtingdowntheirweaponsandgiveabreakforpeace.Theprecioustraditionofpeacecontinued:IwouldneverfailtorecallthesceneoftheopeningceremonieswhenNorthandSouthKoreanathletesenteringthestadiumwiththeirhandsheldtogether.ThetwoneighboringcountriesthatusedtobeenemiesarenolongerenemiesduringtheGames.Insteadtheybecamefriends.SpeakingoftheAthensOlympics,perhapsmostpeoplewouldhavethesameopinionthatthemostnoablepartoftheopeningceremonyarrivedwhenIraqiandAfghanrepresentativesshowedup.Thesetwounfortunatenations,thepeopleofwhichhaveundergoneinnumerablewars,arecomingbackagaintotaketheirownresponsibilityinworldsportsafterrecentinvasionsbyAmerica.ThefearlesspeopleofIraqandAfghanistanareoncemoresharingthespiritoftheGameswithpeoplefromtherestoftheworld.

Thereisanotherstoryinthisbookthatmakesmedeepinthoughts.ThereisnodoubtthatthemostunusualOlympicGameseverinhistoryisthe1936OlympicsheldinGermany,whichwasthenruledbytheNaziParty.LedbyAdolfHitler,theNazibelievedthattheso-calledAryanpeopleweresuperiortoallothersinallaspects.TheylookeddownuponJewsandblacks,thelatterofwhichwasamajorconstitutionoftheUnitedStatesOlympicteam.Despitethebarrierthatfacedhim,theAfricanAmericanJesseOwens,whowasamostoutstandingrunnerandjumper,didallthathecouldandfinallywongoldmedalsforhiscountryandwenthomeahero.ThisrevealsanotherfactthatnopoweronearthisabletohinderthesacredOlympicGames.Forallparticipants,nomatterwhattheirgender,race,nationalitiesandbackgroundsare,equalityisdistributedamongeveryonewhoobservestheGame’srules.
