n.量;體積;(成套書籍中的)一卷volume作為名詞,常用來表達“數(shù)量”意義,其數(shù)量概念大多與體積、容積有關;也與整個物體的移動過程有關,常表達流量、吞吐量、消耗量、工作量等,例如thevolumeofrainwater,somuchvolumeoftraffic,thevolumeofwork等?!驹~語辨析】volume,quantity,amount

volume,quantity和amount都可以表示“數(shù)量”概念,但三者在實際的使用中略有差別。quantity表達“數(shù)量;數(shù)額”等含義時,用以說明事物“多少”的問題,常和large,enormous,high以及small,limited,minimum等程度形容詞連用組成短語。這種表達數(shù)量的短語既可以修飾可數(shù)名詞也可以修飾不可數(shù)名詞,例如:alargequantityofwater,alimitedquantityofservices等。amount可以用作動詞,意為“總計;共計”;也可以作名詞,用來表達“總量”或“數(shù)量”之意義,常用來修飾不可數(shù)名詞。例如:theamountofmoney,amassiveamountoftime,hugeamountoffood,theamountofyourinvestment等。2.Thesechemicalsledtoseverewaterqualityissues,causingadecreaseinthenumberoffishspecies.
