Werememberherpursuitofjustice.Itrsquo;slikeacompanionwiththegoodness.Butstill,avirtuouspersonshouldpromotethegoodnessononesideandmustcheckthebadnessontheotherside.

Werememberherself-respectandtheclearsituationonequality.Inheropinion,everyoneisthesameattheGodrsquo;sfeet.Thoughtherearedifferencesinstatus、inpropertyandalsoinappearance,butallthehumanbeingareequalinpersonality.

Wealsorememberherstrivingforlife,hertoughnessandherconfidencehellip;

Whenwethinkofthisgirl,whatshegaveuswasnotaprettyfaceoratranscendenttemperamentthatmakeusadmiredeeply,butahugecharmofherpersonality.

Actually,shewasnrsquo;tpretty,andofcourse,theordinaryappearancedidnrsquo;tmakeothersfeelgoodofher,evenherownauntfeltdisgustedwithit.Andsomeotherseventhoughtthatshewaseasytolookdownonandtotease,sowhenMissIngrammetJaneEyre,sheseemedquitecontemptuous,forthatshewasobviouslymuchmoreprettierthanlsquo;theplainanduglygovernessrsquo;.Butasthelittlegovernesshadsaid:lsquo;Doyouthink,becauseIampoor,obscure,plain,andlittle,Iamsoullessandheartless?Youthinkwrong!rsquo;ThisistheideaofequalityinJaneEyrersquo;smind.Godhadnrsquo;tgivenherbeautyandwealth,butinstead,Godgaveherakindmindandathinkingbrain.Herideaofequalityandself-respectimpressussomuchandletusfeelthepowerinsideherbody.

Onehundredandsixtyyearsago,whenCharlotteBrontecreatedJaneEyre,shecouldhaveneverthoughtthatitwouldbecomeeternal.Asamatteroffact,intheworldoftoday,therearetensofthousandsofJaneEyre,eachlivinginareader'sheart,breathingwithhimthesameairandsharingwithhimthesamehappinessandsorrow.Herrichmentalworldhasbecomeaninexhaustibleresourceofspirtualpower.FromJaneEyre,peoplewhoaretimidandshygetconfidenceandself-respect;peoplewhofeelimprisonedgetindependenceandfreedom;peoplewhoarelonesomegetloveandcare.However,whatIgetfromJaneEyreisthecourageofinnerqestioningandself-exploring.

JaneEyreisayoungorphanbeingraisedbyMrs.Reed,hercruel,wealthyaunt.AservantnamedBessieprovidesJanewithsomeofthefewkindnessesshereceives,tellingherstoriesandsingingsongstoher.Oneday,aspunishmentforfightingwithherbullyingcousinJohnReed,Janersquo;sauntimprisonsJaneinthered-room,theroominwhichJanersquo;sUncleReeddied.Whilelockedin,Jane,believingthatsheseesherunclersquo;sghost,screamsandfaints.ShewakestofindherselfinthecareofBessieandthekindlyapothecaryMr.Lloyd,whosuggeststoMrs.ReedthatJanebesentawaytoschool.ToJanersquo;sdelight,Mrs.Reedconcurs.

OnceattheLowoodSchool,Janefindsthatherlifeisfarfromidyllic.Theschoolrsquo;sheadmasterisMr.Brocklehurst,acruel,hypocritical,andabusiveman.Brocklehurstpreachesadoctrineofpovertyandprivationtohisstudentswhileusingtheschoolrsquo;sfundstoprovideawealthyandopulentlifestyleforhisownfamily.AtLowood,JanebefriendsayounggirlnamedHelenBurns,whosestrong,martyrlikeattitudetowardtheschoolrsquo;smiseriesisbothhelpfulanddispleasingtoJane.AmassivetyphusepidemicsweepsLowood,andHelendiesofconsumption.TheepidemicalsoresultsinthedepartureofMr.BrocklehurstbyattractingattentiontotheinsalubriousconditionsatLowood.AfteragroupofmoresympatheticgentlementakesBrocklehurstrsquo;splace,Janersquo;slifeimprovesdramatically.ShespendseightmoreyearsatLowood,sixasastudentandtwoasateacher.

Afterteachingfortwoyears,Janeyearnsfornewexperiences.SheacceptsagovernesspositionatamanorcalledThornfield,wheresheteachesalivelyFrenchgirlnamedAdegrave;le.ThedistinguishedhousekeeperMrs.Fairfaxpresidesovertheestate.Janersquo;semployeratThornfieldisadark,impassionedmannamedRochester,withwhomJanefindsherselffallingsecretlyinlove.ShesavesRochesterfromafireonenight,whichheclaimswasstartedbyadrunkenservantnamedGracePoole.ButbecauseGracePoolecontinuestoworkatThornfield,Janeconcludesthatshehasnotbeentoldtheentirestory.JanesinksintodespondencywhenRochesterbringshomeabeautifulbutviciouswomannamedBlancheIngram.JaneexpectsRochestertoproposetoBlanche.ButRochesterinsteadproposestoJane,whoacceptsalmostdisbelievingly.

Theweddingdayarrives,andasJaneandMr.Rochesterpreparetoexchangetheirvows,thevoiceofMr.MasoncriesoutthatRochesteralreadyhasawife.Masonintroduceshimselfasthebrotherofthatwifemdash;awomannamedBertha.Mr.MasontestifiesthatBertha,whomRochestermarriedwhenhewasayoungmaninJamaica,isstillalive.RochesterdoesnotdenyMasonrsquo;sclaims,butheexplainsthatBerthahasgonemad.HetakestheweddingpartybacktoThornfield,wheretheywitnesstheinsaneBerthaMasonscurryingaroundonallfoursandgrowlinglikeananimal.RochesterkeepsBerthahiddenonthethirdstoryofThornfieldandpaysGracePooletokeephiswifeundercontrol.Berthawastherealcauseofthemysteriousfireearlierinthestory.KnowingthatitisimpossibleforhertobewithRochester,JanefleesThornfield.

Pennilessandhungry,Janeisforcedtosleepoutdoorsandbegforfood.Atlast,threesiblingswholiveinamanoralternativelycalledMarshEndandMoorHousetakeherin.TheirnamesareMary,Diana,andSt.John(pronounced;Sinjin;)Rivers,andJanequicklybecomesfriendswiththem.St.Johnisaclergyman,andhefindsJaneajobteachingatacharityschoolinMorton.Hesurprisesheronedaybydeclaringthatheruncle,JohnEyre,hasdiedandleftheralargefortune:20,000pounds.WhenJaneaskshowhereceivedthisnews,heshocksherfurtherbydeclaringthatherunclewasalsohisuncle:JaneandtheRiversesarecousins.Janeimmediatelydecidestoshareherinheritanceequallywithherthreenewfoundrelatives.

St.JohndecidestotraveltoIndiaasamissionary,andheurgesJanetoaccompanyhimmdash;ashiswife.JaneagreestogotoIndiabutrefusestomarryhercousinbecauseshedoesnotlovehim.St.Johnpressureshertoreconsider,andshenearlygivesin.However,sherealizesthatshecannotabandonforeverthemanshetrulyloveswhenonenightshehearsRochesterrsquo;svoicecallinghernameoverthemoors.JaneimmediatelyhurriesbacktoThornfieldandfindsthatithasbeenburnedtothegroundbyBerthaMason,wholostherlifeinthefire.Rochestersavedtheservantsbutlosthiseyesightandoneofhishands.Janetravelsonto
