COURSETITLE:FrancophoneCountriesLiterature

I.OBJECTIVES

Knowledge:

Francophoneliteratureisrichandvaried.Installedonavastterritoryofwhichmayregionsdifferfromeachotheronthesocio-culturallevel,French-languageliteratureisclearlydistinguishedfromitsFrenchcounterpartbythequestionsitraisesaswallasthethemesitaddresses.Studentsgetaglimpseofthisrichness.

Skill/Ability:

StudentswillbeabletoapproachnewFrench-speakingauthorsaswellasrealizetherichnessthatthestudyofFrenchlanguageoffersthemwithregardtotherichnessofFrench-languageliterature.

Quality:

Thecoursewillbepresentedbytheprofessorevenstudentsaregreatlyinvitedtosharetheirquestionsandtheirremarksthroughoutthecourse.Theprofessorhopes,finally,toshowtheinterestofkeepinginmindatrans-disciplinaryattitudewhilepointingoutsomeofthepossibleinterconnectionsbetweenthesedifferentdisciplines.

II.COURSEDESCRIPTION

ThecourseisanintroductiontoFrench-speakingliteratureintheworld.Afterageneralintroduction,theprofessorwillpresentFrench-speakingliteratureaccordingtoageographicaldivision:Europe(Belgium,SwitzerlandandrestofEurope);CanadaandWestIndies;Africa(Maghrebandsub-Saharanliterature);Asia;RestoftheWorld.Ageneralpresentationwillbesystematicallyfollowedbyapresentationoftheculturalandhistoricalcontextofliteratureinthesedifferentareas.Finally,themostemblematicauthorswillbepresented.Textswillbeshowntostudentsasexamples.
