Inresponse,theAmericanAcademyformedtheCommissionon

theHumanitiesandSocialSciences,withDukeUniversity

PresidentRichardBrodheadandretiredExelonCEOJohnRoweas

co-chairmen.Amongthecommissions51membersare

top-tier-universitypresidents,scholars,lawyers,judges,

andbusinessexecutives,aswellasprominentfiguresfrom

diplomacy,filmmaking,musicandjournalism.

Thegoalsidentifiedinthereportaregenerallyadmirable.
