Oral Test For Grade 2014 (Band 5)Topics for oral presentation, pair work or group discussion.Topic 6: Polite and Impolite Behaviors on CampusDirections: You and your partner are talking about polite and impolite behaviors on campus. What are the behaviors you consider the most polite and impolite on campus? List the top 3 of those behaviors respectively and explain the reasons why you choose them.A: Are you alright? You dont seem as cheerful as you normally are.B: With the final exams coming, however, not only can I not get sufficient(充足) sleep, but also I not have a quiet environment to study.A:Why? What happened?B: My roommates often play games late into midnight and make a lot of noise, which causes I cant fall asleep soon. To make matters worse, two students sitting opposite me always talk loudly in library, which makes me cant concentrate on study.A: Oh, I think disturbing others is so impolite. Because of being disturbed, I always cant accomplish my tasks on time. Nevertheless(然而), hurting others self-esteem(自尊) is the most impolite behavior in my view, for example ,laughing at others shortcomings ,which brings psychological harm to others . The ranked second is someone takes it for granted without gratitude(感激) after others help him, which is a lack of respect for others labor fruits.B: I cant agree you anymore. As a college student, we need pay attention to our behaviors.A:Then can you share me the top 3 of most polite behaviors in your opinion?B:In my view, firstly, its the most polite behavior to give warm greetings to whoever you know. Secondly, listen to others attentively whether you agree with it. Thirdly, never use others items(物品) unless getting owners permission. The above behaviors are a way to convey you respect to others.A: To be honest, I learned a lot from what you said.B:So lets try our best to get rid of those impolite behaviors and develop more polite behaviors.Topic 7: Only the Fittest Survives(適者生存) 1. Directions: It is often said that in competitive situations only the fittest survives.Do you agree or disagree to the statement? Now you and your partner are talking about your personal views with arguments.A: Recently I am reading the theory of Evolution(進化論),which refers to(涉及)theory called “Only the Fittest Survives”. However, I think its not fully fit today.B: In my view, its no doubt about “only the fittest survives” no matter in what age, not to mention(更不要說)today-a competitive age(時代). I simply cant understand you. Just tell me why.A:First of all, its an age where you have no need for developed limbs(發(fā)達的四肢) which depends on your genes to get food or avoid other animals attack. In this age, its so easy to survive if you are content with(滿足于) a simple life. However, its a different story(另一回事) if you try to succeed in a field, in this case, only the fittest survives.B:To be honest, there is some truth in what you said. Maybe its more suitable to replace “only the fittest survives” with “only the fittest survives better”. What do you think about the idea?A:Actually, I cant agree with you. It depends on the way of life you want whether you can survive better. Maybe some people pursue(追求)free life, its evident he cant survive better if you force him to fit all kinds of career survival law(職場生存法則)。B:Oh, beats me(我認輸了)for the time being(暫時) . Maybe I need search more evidences to support my argument.A:But we have to admit “only the fittest survives” are suitable for most occasions in todays society. Therefore, we need to learn more than enough(足夠多)knowledge and skills so that we can adjust ourselves to different occasions quickly and survival better.B:You really give me a wake-up call(敲醒警鐘)to remind me face the competitive society.A:This just the fact of life. Your happiness stems from(來源于)the struggle for dreams. But for me, the biggest happiness usually comes from the time with families. Because I can just show myself without other concern.B:By contrast, recently I feel unhappy because I have no a specific aim to struggle for it which makes my life empty without a sense of achievement. Then what will make you unhappy?A:As you know, I care about my parents too much so that I will feel unhappy if I dont meet their standard. Therefore, to achieve more happiness, I will make me better in many aspects to meet my parents expectations. After all, their happiness is my biggest happiness. Then what shall you do to achieve happiness?B:First of all, I need find an aim to push me ahead and enrich my life. Secondly,I want to cultivate some meaningful hobbies instead of playing games, for example, reading, to get more sources to make me happy. A:You inspire (啟發(fā)) me. Maybe I can also try to find other things that can bring me happiness other than catering to(取悅) my parents. B:Good idea! Let us go together to happiness.Topic 9: Job HoppingDirections: Discuss with your partner the pros and cons of giving up a tedious but well-paid job to start something entirely new. You and your partner are talking about the current situation, possible advantages and disadvantages of your decision.A:I heard you want to quit your job and develop in a new field, are you kidding me?B:Actually, I have been tired of the tedious though well-paid job, so I am intended to start something entirely new and interesting.A:Have you ever thought about the consequences? However, in my view, spiritual life is as important as material life .
