文檔簡介

模塊一 第一單元 ReadingSchool life in the UKGoing to a British high school for one year was a very enjoyable and exciting experience for me. I was very happy with the school hours in Britain because school starts around 9 a.m. and ends about 3.30 p.m. This means I could get up an hour later than usual, as schools in China begin before 8 a.m.On the first day, all of the new students attended an assembly in the school hall. I sat next to a girl whose name was Diana. We soon became best friends. During the assembly, the headmaster told us about the rules of the school. He also told us that the best way to earn respect was to devote ourselves to study achieve high grades. This sounded like my school in China. I had many teachers in the past year. Mr Heywood, my class teacher, was very helpful. My favourite teacher was Miss Burke-I loved the lessons that she gave in English literature. In our class there were 28 students. This is about the average size for British schools. We had to move to different classrooms for different classes. We also had different students in some classes, so it was a struggle for me to remember all the faces and names.I found that the homework was not as heavy as what I used to get in my old school. However, it was a bit challenging for me at first., because all the homework was in English. I felt lucky, as all my teachers gave me much encouragement and I enjoyed all my subjects: English, History, English Literature, Computer Science, PE, Art, Cooking and French. My English proved a lot, as I used English every day and spent an hour each day reading English books in the library. I usually went to the Computer Club during the lunch break, so I could send e-mails to my family and friends back home for free. I also had extra French class on Tuesday evenings. Cooking was really fun as I learnt how to buy, prepare and cook food. At the end of term we held a class party and we all had to cook something. I was glad that all my classmates were fond of the cake that I made. Students at that school have to study Maths, English and Science, but can stop studying some subjects if they do not like them, for example, History and French. They can choose other subjects like Art and Computer Science, or languages such as Spanish and German. In the Art class that I took, I made a small sculpture. Though it did not look very beautiful when it was finished, I still liked it very much.I missed Chinese food a lot at lunch. British food is very different. British people like eating dessert at the end of their main meal. AFter lunch, we usually played on the school field. Sometimes I played football with the boys. Sometimes I just relaxed under a tree or sat on the grass.I was very lucky to experience this different way of life. I look back on my time in the UK with satisfaction, and I really hope to go back and study in Manchester again. Reading strategy: skimming and scanningWe skim a text when we want to get a general idea of what it is about. We look at the titles, the first and last sentences of paragraphs, and the first and last paragraphs, as well as pictures and charts, to guess what the text is about. When we want to find certain information in a text quickly, we scan the text for key words and phrases, dates, numbers and so on. We do not need to read the whole text word by word.牛津教材 unit1 School life in the UK (reading )【人生笑語:第一個(gè)青春是上帝給的;第二個(gè)的青春是自己努力的】一、語言知識(shí)與運(yùn)用 【緊扣課本知識(shí),拓展與提高】1.【2012全國卷II】He missed _ gold in the high jump, but will get _ second chance in the long jump.A. the; the B. 不填; a C. the; a D. a; 不填2.【2006湖北聯(lián)考】The students are busy making preparations for the lecture because they will _ the competition. Fifty others left because the lines were moving so slowly. The event continued at 6 pm, three hours after the scheduled close. It was a long day for everyone-administrators, nurses, and donors. But there were plenty of chairs and tables, and many people brought their own books, magazines, or newspapers. The first thing the donors had to do, of course, was fill out the donor registration【表格】 and screening form. When they finished filling out the form, they waited until a nurse called them to her desk. The average adult body contains 8 to 12 pints【品脫】 of blood. Donors can give one pint【品脫】 at a time. It takes your body 2 to 4 weeks to replace this amount. Most donors filled up the pint bag within 5 to 10 minutes. Before leaving, the donors received a sheet of instructions including: Do not lift any heavy objects【重物】 for 12 hours. Leave your pressure bandage 【繃帶】on for 23 hours. Do not smoke for at least 30 minutes. Avoid alcohol for the rest of the day. Do not do any laborious activity【體力勞動(dòng)】for 24 hours.“I wish I could hug and kiss all the volunteers that are here today,” said Martha, the blood center donor recruiter. “Many donors underestimate【低估】 the importance of what theyre doing.
