eautomaticfeature.Usually,theautomaticfeatureisachievedbyfeedingtheoutputvariablebackandcomparingitwiththecommandsignal.Whenasystemdoesnothavethefeedbackstructure,itiscalledanopen-loopsystem,whichisthesimplestandmosteconomicaltypeofcontrolsystem.Unfortunately,open-loopcontrolsystemlackaccuracyandversatilityandcanbeusedinnonebutthesimplesttypesofapplications.Consider,forexample,controlofthefurnaceforhomeheating.Letusassumethatthefurnaceisequippedonlywithatimingdevice,whichcontroltheonandoffperiodsofthefurnace.Toregulatethetemperaturetotheproperlever,thehumanoperatormustestimatetheamountoftimerequiredforthefurnacetostayonandthensetthetimeraccordingly.Whenthepresettimeisup,thefurnaceisturnedoff.
