Of the virtues of the orange I have not room fully to speak. It has properties of health-giving, as that it cure

4、s influenza and establishes the complexion. It is clean, for whoever handles it on its way to your table but handles its outer covering, its top coat, which is left in the hall. It is round, and forms an excellent substitute with the young for a cricket ball. The pips can be flicked at your enemies,

5、 and quite a small piece of peel makes a slide for an old gentleman.But all this would count nothing had not the orange such delightful qualities of taste. 8、ries of life-whe n and whom you will marry, and whether she really loves you or is tak ing you for your worldly prosp ects. (I may add here that I know a girl who can tie a knot in the stalk of a cherry with her ton gue. It is a tricky bus in ess, and I am doubtful whether to add it to the virtues o

9、f the cherry or n ot.)There are only two ways of eati ng strawberries. One is n eat in the strawberry bed, and the other is mashed on the p late. The first method gen erally requires us to take up a bent p ositi on un der a n et-i n a hot sun very un comfortable, and at any time fatal to the hair. T

10、he sec ond method takes us into the p rivacy of the home, for it dema nds a dress in g-gow n and no sp ectators. For these reas ons I thi nk the strawberry an overrated fruit.Yet I must say that I like to see one floati ng in cider cup .It gives a note of rich ness to the affair, and excuses any sho

11、rtco mings in the lunch itself.Rasp berries are a good fruit gone wrong. A ras pberry by itself might in deed be the best fruit of all; but it is almost imp ossible to find it alon e. I do not refer to its attachme nt to the red curra nt; rather to the attachme nt to it of so many of our dumb little

12、 frie nds. The in st inct of the lower creatures for the best is well show n in the case of the ras pberry. If it is to be eate n it must be p icked by the hand, well shake n, and the n take n.When you en gage a garde ner the first thi ng to do is to come to a clear un dersta nding with him about th

Their faults are faults which we can forgive duri ng a slight acqua intan ce, which in deed seem but pl easa nt little idios yn crasies in the stra nger.
