、d live. The exploration and reform of English education methods are constantly progressing with time. How to make English education and learning more effective through effective methods is our eternal pursuit of goals. Context is particularly important to the language learning. In our country, Engli

、sh as a foreign language cant get enough emphasis in many ordinary primary and secondary schools, which has also led to the lack of students real experience and cultural perception of language learning. Primary and Secondary School students are at the basic level of English study. Inthemeantime, the

、 students in the primary and secondary school are more lively, and are good at imitating and acting. These characteristics of students determine that if the teachers want to have a valid communication and mobilize the initiative of students participation, It is necessary to start with the characteri

、stics and actual thinking of the students and adopt the teaching methods in a form that is welcomed and favorite, such teaching can be full of vitality and steadiness. It is crucial to attract students attention and create a dynamic and interesting atmosphere to learn. However, traditional teaching

、cannot create a real language environment: teachers often teach without context and teach only for outputting the knowledge. The method of Drama Show can let the students learn English words and sentences in vivid short dramas. Through directing and acting by themselves, the students can work in a t

、eam to figure out the problems, enhance hands-on ability, and promote innovative thinking and cooperative spirit. The method of Drama Show combines boring English learning with interest and entertaining, getting the learning into acting. In addition, the core idea of the new round of curriculum refor

、m which takes students as the center, is aiming to construct vivid classrooms and find the ways to have an effective teaching, and finally comprehensively advance the pace of English teaching reform. The application of drama performance in English teaching is an effective means of the new curriculum

、 reform.1 Definition and Characteristics of Drama Show1.1 The Definition of Drama ShowThe word drama meaning action and performance is originated from ancient Greek. Drama teaching, also translated as educational drama, is derived from English Drama in Education. It is the use of drama in teaching a

、nd learning of other disciplines through the form of drama. That is, the application of the elements of drama in education. The educational model of the activity is focused on education, but not drama(Holden S,1981).Drama has various forms of presentation, such as monologues, partner speeches, role-

、plays, etc., which enrich teaching activities. The most valuable thing is that it can provide different story situations and a lot of practical opportunities for students to learn to use. Language to communicate with people(Wu,2009).English short play is the main form of English drama teaching. It r

、efers to the adaptation of certain dialogues, essays, novels, stories, fables, news and even television programmes, movies, etc., which are displayed as a performing form in class. Students write, rehearse, and perform short English dramas through group activities, and then conduct teacher-student e

、valuation. This teaching method is student-centered and provides a natural, free, confident, and autonomous platform for language learning through the improvisation, presentation-knowledge expression-feedback system process, giving full play to students English learning enthusiasm and initiative(Mal

、ey A,1987). Drama show is one of the newer and more effective methods of English teaching, and it is of great help to improve students oral English ability and application skills. Interest is one of the most critical aspects in language teaching. The English short play performance teaching method ca

、n fully mobilize students English knowledge, including vocabulary, phrases, grammar, spoken language, listening, etc. Based on textbooks, teachers guide students to fully master the use of English in practice, and ultimately achieve the purpose of effective improvement of primary and secondary schoo

、l students English ability. In addition to providing students with the opportunity to learn the language as a whole, drama also draws childrens attention deeply in its unique form, which is in line with childrens psychological and cognitive characteristics. Especially childrens innate perception of

、language (Wang,2011).Drama teaching is no stranger to European and American classrooms. As early as the 18th century, educator Rousseau put forward the concept of learning in the practice of drama(Cen, 2011). In foreign education circles, the method of Drama Show in teaching has extensive value and

、years of practical research in primary and secondary education. In China these years, Drama Show is applied in English education activities, mostly in the form of drama classes, short play performances and English micro-movies in primary and secondary schools and in training institutions and some pr

、ivileged schools. They are popular in students and parents. However, not many schools have introduced drama teaching methods. 1.2 The Characteristics of Drama Show1.2.1 AutonomyDrama should be an independent and creative curriculum, which produces spontaneous and self-creation of children, and natur

、ally develops into a kind of performance (Pinter A, 2006). From role distribution, collection of materials, writing Scripts, production props, plot soundtracks, and English drama performances are all created by students using extracurricular time or drama lessons in cooperation with groups. Students

、 are truly the masters of the drama, and they use their comprehensive ability to create and perform, thereby improving their overall quality.1.2.2 RichnessEnglish drama show can be performed in the form of short plays, which can be performed and practiced before or after class performances. This not

、 only ensures the daily speaking time, but also the teaching time. And the students adapted from the script inside or outside the class, and the topic was reasonably reorganized, extended, and via imagination, the content become richer and richer. Therefore, everyone in the group can find a role to

、suit their own, so as to better play the personality of students. The rich script content and performance form enriched the students extracurricular activities. 1.2.3 PersistenceWe all know the reason for dripping stones, and the secret of their success is almost always related to persistence. Drama

、 Show requires a long period of practice and performance to truly adapt students to this learning mode, which is also conducive to the formation of an English learning environment. Therefore, from the first week of school, the tasks of drama show performances should be emphasized and arranged, and t

、here must be at least 2 lessons per week for rehearsals and performances.1.2.4 ComprehensivenessDrama Show focuses on the development of students with different levels of learning ability and aims to benefit every student. Students have a sense of hierarchy in their grades and their ability to speak

、. Some students can take the lead alone. The spoken language is clear and fluent, and the performance is easy. However, most of the students are timid, nervous, have a heavy accent, and pronounce inaccurately. They are nervous enough to speak, or often forget the words, and experience awkward silenc

、e. Compared with students with better speaking and performing skills, these students need more opportunities for exercise.1.2.5 Rich Evaluation SystemThe drama show mainly adopts encouragement-based praise methods, which greatly stimulate the students enthusiasm for creating scripts and ensure the c

、ontinuous and effective practice of spoken English. In order to fully demonstrate the students hard work results, we have developed Predictive Evaluations. Predictive Evaluation is to be done just after the beginning of a new semester or just after a round of performance, the students in the class w

、ill give themselves and their classmates a score based on their past performances, and the result will be announced by the teacher in the class. This evaluation method accords with the psychology of primary and secondary school students. Students with high scores will work harder after hearing their

、 own results, for fear that others will catch up with them, and students with lower scores will not show weakness after hearing the results. Through collective cooperation, they will certainly perform well. There are also Summative Evaluations. Generally, after the completion of a round of English sh

、ort play performances and a semester performance, and even after the English short play competitions of the class and grade are over, Summative Evaluations are organized by the teacher and all students. The students talk about their groups progress and deficiencies. In particular, by giving a lot of

、 praises and encouragement to those timid students who are usually not positive enough, but put forward many points for improvement in their own groups, it often affects and moves other students to keep up their efforts, practice their spoken English, and improve their English.2 The Application of D

、rama Show in the Primary and Secondary School English Teaching2.1 Current Situation in the Primary and Secondary School English TeachingFrom the present situation of English teaching, it is not easy for students to translate knowledge into language skills. Students English expression and communicati

、on skills are still not good for two reasons. One is that teachers still use traditional teaching methods. According to the original teaching method, the lessons are either “one-talk”, “full-filled” or the continuous test, which make the students unbearable in academic and spiritual pressure. This k

、ind of English teaching malpractices cause students English knowledge to come from books, and from teachers in the detailed analysis of grammar knowledge, and especially from the explanation of the text, sentence by sentence. English has become a regular pile of words, which makes students feel bore

、d and uninterested. The second is the students learning. Chinese students lack the chances and context to use the target language they have learned, which make them feel strange about speaking English. Coupled with the pressure for students to progress to higher education, they only take the lead in

、 the examination questions. Since the quiz and middle school exams are mainly written tests, oral communication and functional understanding are silently regarded by students, and they are ignored. It is still common for students in English classes to be unwilling to speak, not speak, and speak badly

、. English classroom teaching is still teacher-centered. Students are still accustomed to passive fill-in-duck education in the classroom. The classroom atmosphere is depressed and dull, and students lack intrinsic motivation for English learning. These traditional English teaching phenomena and prob

、lems have greatly deprived students of the improvement that they should have achieved, such as the development of emotions and values, which runs counter to the requirements of the new curriculum standards.2.2 The Application of Drama Show in the Process of Teaching2.2.1 Assign TasksFirst, the teach

、er should arrange the content and time of the performance: dramas from textbooks or dramas adapted from stories in textbooks are arranged after explaining the text. In order to encourage students creativity, teachers can encourage students to recreate their plots and endings. Re-creation can be done

、 one week in advance; if the script is adapted from movies, book stories and other content outside the textbook, it needs to be two weeks in advance, and try to ensure that there is at least one performance from the adapted script every month.Second, the performance must be the participation of the

、whole class, so it requires each student has the chances to exercise, the teacher should group the students, and the group members will determine who will be the director. There can be multiple arrangements for grouping. You can group by the number of the dormitory. The advantage is that the student

、s are familiar with each other, and it is easy to rehearse. You can also draw lots to decide the groups. For example, there are 30 students in a class and 10 in a group. There are three groups. Since we can cooperate with different students after each group drawing, it is beneficial for students to

、understand each other and create a very good cooperative learning environment in the whole class.Thirdly, teachers should arrange students to make work props, and advocate to make them by hand. Loan or cheap props can be purchased. Finally, before the first performance, the drama show scoring criteri

、a should be explained. Generally speaking, the score is 10 points out of which 2 points are voice and intonation; 2 points are fluent in English; 2 points are acting skills; 2 points for script content and costume prop preparation; 2 points for sense of humor and innovation.2.2.2 Preparation Activit

、iesAfter the students received the task, the directors of each group began to choose the script, assign roles, prepare costumes, become familiar with the script, and study the acting skills. For the script written by the students and the script translated from Chinese, the language and expression er

、rors can be modified by the teacher; during the preparation process, the teacher does not need to participate a lot to allow the students to make full use of their imagination and innovative awareness. In the process of arranging drama show, it can build a positive atmosphere of cooperative learning

、, students can give play to their initiative and creativity, and through continuous rehearsal, they can use the vocabulary and expressions learned in the performance to improve students expressive and comprehensive skills.2.2.3 PerformanceAfter sufficient preparation, the teams can begin to demonstr

、ate their achievements. Each group performs in turn. The performer cannot carry the script, but the director can sit at the position closest to the podium and prompt the performer through gestures or other actions (if the teacher can take enough time for the students to rehearse, they can also propose request, do not allow the director to prompt the conductor in t
