2、）receivefrom表示 “從收到”。3Last year, we were travelling across the Channel and Jane put a piece of paper with her name and address on it into a bottle. 去年，當我們橫渡英吉利海峽時，簡把寫有她姓名和 住址的一張紙條裝進了一只瓶子。（1）在寫到過去的事情時，一般過去時和過去實行時能夠連用。 過去實行時往往用來表示背景，一般過去時表示發(fā)生的動作。在這句話中， travelling across the Channel 是個持續(xù)時間較長 的背景動作。（2）

3、the Channel=the English Channel（channel 如果大寫，并 且除了 the 以外沒有其他定語時，則指英吉利海峽）。（3）with 在這里表示“有”、“帶有”、“具有”等，指紙條上 寫的內(nèi)容。4She never thoughtof it again此后她就再沒去想那只瓶子think of 指“考慮”、“想”、“想起”等：Do you ever think of the girls you met at a party?你會想起你在一個晚會上遇到的姑娘們嗎？5 Both girls write to each other regularly now.現(xiàn)在這兩位姑

4、娘定期通信了。both 的用法在第 14 課詞匯學習中已經(jīng)講過。它用在名詞前面時， of 可有可無。在 both girls 中， both 為形容詞；在 both of the 結 構中， both 為代詞。 each other 指互相，一般作賓語。6 Letters will cost a little more, but they willcertainly travel faster. 這樣會稍微多花點錢，但肯定是快得多了。（1）more 和 faster 都是副詞的比較級。這里隱含的比較成分是 郵局寄信與海上漂瓶。（2）動詞cost意為“（使）花費”、“價錢為”，其主語 通常為某物

5、或某件事情：It costs a lot to buy a house. 買一所房子要花很多錢。The dress cost me twenty pounds. 這件連衣裙花了我 20 英鎊。 語法 Grammar in use后面可跟of, from , in和on的動詞很多動詞后面加上介詞后仍具有其通常意義，但它們與哪些介詞 連用卻往往是固定的，如 borrow from ， believe in （相信，信仰）， receive from 等。還有些動詞可與不同的介詞連用，而動詞的意義改 變并不大，如 dream of/about ，help in/with ， expect of/fr

6、om 等。 在學習中，要牢記哪些介詞與它們連用。如下動詞和介詞通常能夠分 開使用，能夠有自己的賓語，并且絕大部分都可用于被動結構。（ 1）與 of 連用的動詞Someone must warn him of the difficulties.必須有人提醒他有這些困難。He has already been warned of them. 他已經(jīng)被警告過了。（被動結構）Don't expect too much of your child.不要對你的孩子期望太高。He must have spoken of the matter to John.他肯定對約翰談起過這件事。I have n
