1、Unit 5 Do you want to watch a game show? (Section B, 2a-2e) Good morning, my dear judges. I'm the No.8. Its my great honor to have this opportunity to&
2、#160;share my teaching design with you. The lesson Im going to talk about is “Do you want to watch a game show?” This is a reading class. Firstly, lets
3、60;come to the analysis of teaching material. The topic of this lesson is about “cartoons”. This lesson is from the reading part of section B, Unit 5 of PEP
4、0;junior middle school English. After learning this passage, students will know about the status of cartoon in American history, especially the Mickey Mouse. Also, students ca
5、n use the target language and useful phrases properly. Meanwhile, encourage students to use the scanning and skimming reading strategies, which can help students have a b
6、etter understanding of this text and form a good habit of reading. The reading passage 2b offers a good example for students to imitate. Secondly, students are the
7、160;subject of our class. As for the students of Grade eight, they have learnt quite a few knowledge of the grammar structure of infinitives used as object. And
8、;they also have learned some new words and phrases about cartoon in the last lesson. Whats more, the topic “cartoon” is close to students daily life. They will
9、be very interested in this topic and willing to get some information about cartoons in American history in this reading material. So, it may not be so difficult
10、;for them to understand the content of this passage and express their preferences in this lesson. Through the analysis of the New Curriculum Standard in English, te
11、aching material and the students in my class, I set the following three teaching aims. The first one is knowledge aims: (1) Students can recognize these new
12、160;words and phrases: culture, famous, successful, reason, think of, come out and so on. (2) According to the context, students are able to understand the meaning
13、of some difficult sentences: People went to the cinema to see the “l(fā)ittle man” wins; who has a pair of ears more famous than Mickeys? (3) After learning this
14、60;passage, students will know about the status of cartoon in American history, especially the Mickey Mouse. The second one is ability aims: (1) Students are able to
15、;use these key words and phrases to make sentences, e.g. famous, one of the main reasons, come out. (2) According to pictures and key words, students can predict
16、0;the contents of this text. (3) Students are able to use the reading strategies of scanning to find out the time line of the cartoons
17、0;of Mickey Mouse. The third one is emotional aims: (1) Students will have a better understanding of the role of cartoon in American culture. (2) Cultivate st
18、udents interest of reading different kind of article and their awareness of cooperation. According to above analysis, I set the following key points and difficult points.
19、;Key points:1. Students will learn the target language and understand the content of the passage. 2. Students will understand the status of cartoon in American history, e
20、specially the birth of Mickey Mouse and why it became so popular in the United States. Difficult points: 1. To master some basic reading strategies, such as, predict
21、ing the content of the text, skimming the text for the gist, scanning the text for the specific information. 2. Help them attaching great importance to different cul
22、ture. Now, I would like to talk about the teaching methods and studying methods. As to the teaching methods, Communicative Approach and Task-based Teaching Method will
23、160;be adopted in this lesson. Based on the learning condition of my students, I arranged some activities to make the reading process more attracted. For example, I
24、will ask students to make competition in groups, which can help them form a good sense of cooperation. Then Id like to talk about the teaching aids. Multimedia
25、will be used in this class. Now, lets come to the most important part of this lesson: analysis of the teaching procedures. There are 5 stages in this lesson,
26、60;that is, lead-in, pre-reading, while-reading, post-reading and summary & homework. Teaching procedures: Step 1: Lead-in After greeting to Ss, I will show a cartoon Ste
27、amboat Willie to them. After that I will ask them some questions: Do you like to watch cartoon? What is your favorite cartoon? Why do you like it? This act
28、ivity can arouse students attentions and cultivate their interest of talking about cartoon, which is the topic of this lesson. It can make a good preparation for the
29、ir further reading. Step 2: Pre-reading Before reading this passage, I will ask them to predict the main idea of this text according to the pictures on 2b and
30、160;some options related to main idea on PPT: A. Mickey Mouse, a famous symbol in American culture; B. Some cartoons with Mickey Mouse; C. Disney theme parks around&
31、#160;the world; D. What people think of cartoons? Then talk to their partners and choose the right option. This activity mainly develops students predicting skill. Step&
32、#160;3: While-reading At the stage of while-reading, I set 3 activities. Activity 1: Ask students to read the passage quickly and then check their prediction answers. Rea
33、ding with expectation makes them willing to read this passage. Activity 2: Read the passage quickly again and complete the time line on 2b. I will ask them
34、0;pay attention to the “time” in this passage. As we known, practice makes perfect. This activity mainly helps students practicing their scanning skill. After that, students
35、160;have a general understanding of this passage, so I arrange them another task. Let Ss read this passage carefully and then work with their partners to discuss the
36、 questions on 2c. Discussing these questions can make them have a good command of the meaning of this passage and the writers intention. Step 4: Post-reading A
37、t the post-reading stage, I will arrange them to talk about their favorite cartoon characters. Then I will write down their answers on the blackboard and ask they
38、60;vote for their favorite cartoon characters. And then four students a group to discuss why this character is popular. This activity can help them to express their
39、preferences, which is the function object of this unit. Also, it can cultivate their cooperation awareness. Step 5 Summary and Homework 1. Summary The last stage is
40、summary and homework. Summary can help students to review what they have learnt in this class. So, in this stage, I ask students to recall what they have learnt today according to the key words on blackboard. Then I will do some supplements. 2. Homework: role play After finish this class, I will present my homework&
