1、JM, Job ManagerContentsFunction Description User Guide Overview The Job Manager (JM) is used to configure and run jobs on Network Elements in the Core Network and to support configuration management of Network Elements in the Core Network.The Job Manager enables an OSS-RC user to monitor the progres

2、s of Jobs initiated in OSS-RC. The Job Manager also enables OSS-RC users to create Jobs that could be executed towards the core network.The purpose of these features was to save time for Operators - the Job Manager provides the capability to quickly determine the status of Jobs executing in OSS-RC,

3、and to automate, by providing scheduling information for example, Jobs which would otherwise be done manually.Function Description A Job is a series of activities that can be executed to fulfill a work order. An activity executes a single task, for example, to initiate a measurement job on the NE.In

4、 the context of the Job Manager application, the architecture of a job is as follows:Job - contains one or more activities. A job cannot contain other jobs. Jobs do not have other dependencies, that is, they run independently of other jobs. Activity - is a component of a Job. An activity may have a

5、dependency on another activity within the same job. An activity executes a single task. Task - is the basic building block within an Activity. It contains parameters that are set for a particular activity. A task operates on a single network element. A task contains no timing information.All tasks a

6、re stored as predefined tasks in the Job Manager and these tasks are used to run jobs on specified network elements. The Job Editor List GUI is used to assign tasks to a job. Each Job contains one or more tasks and a flow for creating a job as displayed in the figure above.The main user interfaces f

7、or CPT are the Task Editor, Job Editor List, and Job Supervisor.Job OverviewDefinitionsJobA job is the highest level container in OSS-RC Job Manager and can contain one or more activities. A job cannot contain other jobs. Jobs do not have interdependencies.ActivityAn activity is a component of a job

8、. An activity may have dependencies on another activity within the same job. An activity consists of a single task.TaskA task is the basic building block within an activity. It contains parameters that may be set for a particular activity. A task can only run against one network element. A task cont

9、ains no timing information.Job ParameterA Job parameter can be read/set by a script associated with an Activity. A Job parameter has the following format: parameter name and parameter value. A Job parameter can be set and read by all activities in a Job. It is used to pass information between Activi

10、ties in the same Job.Job CategoryA Job Category is the highest level container that can contain jobs. Job Categories are created to group relevant jobs together.At least one job category has to be available as jobs must be stored in a job category.A new Task Category needs to be created before attem

11、pting to launch the Job Editor GUI. A new task needs to added after creating the Task Category.Job Manager is split into three main applications: Job Supervisor Job Editor Task EditorOther Job Manager applications include: BatchInstaller Job Administration Command Line InterfaceTask EditorThe Task E

12、ditor is a component of the Job Manager application. It is used to add, edit and manage tasks in the OSS. The Task Editor is linked to a task server which contains a database of management tasks. Tasks are the building blocks of Activities and Jobs. Job EditorThe purpose of the Job Editor is to enab

13、le users to create and edit jobs. The Job Editor is a component of the Job Creation Environment (JCE), which consists of the Job Editor and the Job Editor List (which lists the jobs). Job SupervisorThe Job Supervisor is used to view the component details that make up the job, view the status of a jo

14、b, schedule a job or terminate jobs. There is an option to filter the information displayed in the GUI, enabling you to display only Job information relevant to you. There is also an option to view a Job log, which shows details of jobs and details of activities. Job SupervisorThe operator uses the

15、Job Supervisor to interface with the system to manage Jobs and Activity execution.The Job Supervisor shows job and activity status.The main operations performed on jobs and activities in the Job Supervisor are: Monitoring Scheduling (of already scheduled jobs from the Job Editor List. Jobs in the st

16、ates Failed, Completed or Terminated can be re-scheduled.) Termination and Deletion (Jobs that are no longer required can be deleted. A job must be terminated or completed before it can be deleted.)Job EditorThere are two GUI components used for Job Editing. They are the Job Editor and Job Editor Li

17、st.When a job is being scheduled from this GUI, the option to keep a master copy of the job will be given. If a decision is made to keep a master copy then a copy is made of the job and the copy of the job is first scheduled and then added to the Job Supervisor list. The master copy remains in the J

18、ob Editor List. If a decision is made not to keep a master copy, then a copy of the job is then made and the copy of the job is first scheduled and then added to the Job Supervisor list. The master copy is then deleted from the Job Editor List.Job EditorThis component is used to define new jobs and

19、activities and to modify existing jobs and activities and to assign a task to each activity. The relationships between the individual activities in a job are also defined here.Job Editor ListThis GUI list Jobs that are created. Jobs can be deleted, copied and scheduled from this GUI. Job Categories

20、can also be created, edited and deleted. Import and export of Jobs and tasks to a file can be performed from this GUI. From this GUI the operator can launch the Job Editor to create or edit a Job.Job Editor FunctionalityThe main functionality provided by job editing are as follows:Creating JobsJobs

21、are created on the Job Editor List and run on the network by operators using the Job Supervisor application.Adding an ActivityThis is used to insert an activity into a job.Adding a Check PointThis is used to add check points into a job. Check points are used to include a break or pause in a job.Addi

22、ng a RelationshipThis is used to add a relationship. A relationship is simply a link between one job component and another.Check ConsistencyThis is used to check consistency. Consistency checks show if there are errors in the structure of the job you have created.Job Editor List FunctionalityThe mai

23、n functionality provided by job list editing are as follows:Adding a New Job Category This is used to add a Job Category.Renaming a Job Category This is used to rename a Job Category.Deleting a Job Category Job categories that contain jobs cannot be deleted. You must first delete the jobs from the j

24、ob categoryOpening an Existing Job Only jobs that are not being edited can be opened. Renaming a Job This is used to rename a job.Scheduling a JobWhen scheduling jobs in the Job Editor List there is an option to keep a copy of the job in the master list (that is, in the Job Editor List). This means

25、that the job is stored even after it has completed. If the master copy is not kept, the job is deleted after it has completed. It can be useful to keep jobs for future rescheduling.Adding a New JobThis is used to add a New Job. If another user creates a job, the job is displayed in the Job Editor Li

26、st immediately. Deleting a Job Only jobs that are not being edited can be deleted.Importing a JobThis is used to import jobs. If a Job with same name already exists in the Job Category then the existing job will be overwritten.Exporting a Job This is used to export a single job or a number of jobs.V

27、iew Import/Export Log This is used to view import/export logs.Copying and Pasting a Job This is used to copy and move a job.Cutting and Pasting a JobIt is possible to select multiple jobs to move from one category to another however the selection must be made from one job category only per operation

Only jobs that are not being edited can be cut.Errors in Jobs (Consistency Check)This checks the job to ensure that it is consistent and will be able to run without any fatal errors due to lack of information or an incorrect job structure.Task EditingThe expert user uses the Task Editor to define

29、new tasks in the system. The task editor consists of the following components: Task Browser GUI This GUI lists all the tasks in the system within their relevant Task Category. From this GUI a task can be created, edited, browsed, deleted or renamed and the same for Task Categories. Import and export

30、 of Tasks to a file can also be performed. Task Editor GUI This is a GUI that allows a Task to be created and edited. From this GUI a 3PP Text Editor can be launched to write a script. Task Editor FunctionalityThe main functionality provided by task editing are as follows:Adding a Task CategoryTask

31、Categories are used to group tasks together. At least one task category has to be available because tasks must be stored in a task category.This functionality is used to add a task category.Editing a Task CategoryNames of existing task categories can be changed. The Task Editor provides a means of e

32、diting a task category.Deleting a Task CategoryThis is used to delete task categories. Task categories that contain tasks cannot be deleted. Tasks must first be deleted from the task category.Adding a Task This is used to add a task.Editing Tasks This is used to edit a task.Deleting Tasks This opera

33、tion is not available on tasks that are being edited or used by an activityBrowsing TasksThis is used to browse a task. Browsing the task means that the script, task details and parameters can be viewed, but no editing of information is permitted.Editing task information is not possible but copying

34、task scripts can be done if required.Exporting Tasks This is used to export a task.Importing TasksThis is used to import a task. The application will unpack the task and insert it in the selected task category. If a Task already exists with the same name in the task category then the import will fai

35、l.View Import/Export Log This is used to a view a import/export log.Copying and Pasting a TaskThis is used for coping and moving tasks.Only tasks that are not being edited or used by an activity can be copied. Cutting and Pasting a Task This is used for cutting and moving tasks.BatchInstallerThe Bat

36、chInstaller is a component of the Job Manager application. It is used to install and uninstall jobs and tasks. The BatchInstaller exposes a CLI to the Job Manager server to provide this functionality. BatchInstaller performs these operations in the same manner as the Task Editor and Job Editor List

37、GUI.The Batch Installer script is located in: /opt/ericsson/jm/client/bin.Job Administration Command Line InterfaceThe Command Line Interface is a component of the Job Manager application. It is used to run and remove jobs. The CLI links to the Job Manager server to provide this functionality. The C

41、User Guide - Job Supervisor Explaining Check PointsCheck points are often included in a job. Check points are a break, or pause, in activity and are used by the operator for a number of reasons. These can include the following: To check that a number of activities have executed successfully before s

42、tarting the next stage of a job. To pause a job after a certain number of activities in the job are completed. To synchronize activities that are being executed on a number of network elements. A job can run on more than one network element at the same time. If activities in a job are running on two

43、 network elements and the activities are executed more quickly on one of the network elements, the check point can be used to synchronize the activities before continuing to execute.There are a number of actions that can be taken at a check point, illustrated as follows:User Guide - Job Editor List

44、The purpose of the Job Editor List GUI is to enable users to list, schedule, import, export, copy, cut and paste jobs.Note: The operations you can perform using the Job Editor List depends on your user permission settings, determined by the system administrator. The Job Editor List is a component of

45、 the overall Job Manager application. The Job Editor List GUI has a main window which has a menu bar along the top and the window is divided into two panes. The upper pane shows a category list. Within each category are the jobs, listed in a tree structure. When a job is selected the detailed inform

46、ation about that job (Job Name, Description, Category Name and Author) is displayed in the lower pane.Click the New button to create a new job. The Job Editor GUI is launched.Select a job and click the Open button to open the job. The Job Editor GUI is launched. Select one or more jobs or job catego

47、ries and click the Delete button to delete the jobs or job categories.Select a job and click the Schedule button to schedule the job.Select one or more jobs and click the Export button to export the jobs. Exporting a job will format the job into a .XML file. This allows it to be imported again, for

48、example into another system. If, during the export, you click Cancel to cancel the export of jobs, the export ceases and no files are exported. When the Export has completed, click OK to close the export progress dialog box. The Save dialog window is then displayed.Click the Import button to launch

49、a new window which allows you to specify which file to import that contains the jobs to import.The import operation firstly checks to see if the job category exists. If the job category does not exist, one is created, otherwise the operation continues. After this step, a check is done to see if the

50、job exists. If the job exists then the job will not be imported. Otherwise the import operation will continue. If a task in a job already exists, any job associated with the task will not be imported.Note: If a Job with same name already exists in the same Job Category the job will not be imported.U

51、ser Guide - Job Editor The Job Editor is launched from the Job Editor List application.The Job Editor List can be launched from a menu option in the OSS Network Explorer (ONE) interface. From the Configuration menu, select Manage Jobs and click Job Editor List. If you cannot launch Job Editor List,

52、check your access rights with your system administrator. To open a job in the Job Editor, select a job in the Job Editor List window and do one of the following: Select File menu, click Open Right click and select Open Click the icon The Job is opened in the Job Editor.The left pane is used to displ

53、ay a graphical representation of a job. The right pane is used to enter information required to create a job.There are a number of shortcuts available in the Job Editor GUI, used to speed up selection of functions and menu options. Shortcut buttons are displayed below the menu bar and are illustrate

59、y.Creating JobsTo create a job, open the Job Editor List application and select File menu, New, click New Job. The Job Editor window is displayed.The main steps to take to create a job are:1. Enter the Job Properties. These include a Job name and description and an appropriate job category. You enter a Job name and a Description in the appropriate fields in the right pane when the Job Editor is first displayed. The Job Properties can be viewed at any time during the creation of a job by selecting the File menu, and clicking Job Properties, or clicking the white space o
