JeppesenAirwayManualOverviewChapter1JeppesenAirwayManualOverview§1.1BriefingBulletin§1.2IntroductionofUsage§1.3ChartChangeNotices§1.4Enroute§1.5RadioAids§1.6Meteorology§1.7TablesandCodes§1.8AirTrafficControl§1.9EntryRequirements§1.10Emergency§1.11AirportDirectory§1.12TerminalCharts§1.13AirwayManualServicesRevisionBackgroundElreyB.Jeppesen(1907~1996),apilot,beganrecordingaeronauticalinformationintheearly1930s.Forover70yearsJeppesenchartserviceshavesetthestandardforcurrent,complete,reliableflightinformationworldwide.It’simportanttorecognizethatJeppesendosenotcreateaviationprocedures.ThechartsJeppesencreatesaregraphicrepresentationsoftheproceduresdesignedbyaviationauthoritiesincompliancewiththegoverningregulations.JeppesenextractsthebasicinformationforthechartingandNavDataservicesfrompublicdocumentsanddisseminatedbyworldwidecivilaviationauthorities.Allofthechartsareboundinleatherbinder.Jeppesenairwaymanualsdivideintodifferentstandardmanualsaccordingtogeographicalregionontheworld,suchasEEU—EuropeManual,CHI—ChinaManual,PBN—PacificManual,etc.Generally,thecontentsofStandardJeppesenairwaymanualaredividedintothirteenmainsections,seperatedbytabs.Eachsectionwillbeintroducedbrieflyinthislesson.§1.1BriefingBulletinBriefingBulletinsaretheimportanttabofairwaymanual.BulletinsoftennotifythecustomersbymeansofNOTAMS.Theyarenormallyusedtoconveyinformationconcerningsuchitemas:Majorspecificationchanges,suchasnewIAPformats,symbolsandglossary,etc.Forexample,Insteadof“ChartNOTAMs”,“ChartChangeNotices”hasbeenusedfrom28thseptember,2007.MajoreventsaffectingIFRoperations,suchastheAirTrafficFlowManagement(ATFM)fortheEuropeanregion,andtemporaryeventssuchasairshowsandsportingeventsthatinvolvespecificIFRrequirements.ChangesinaState’srulesandregulationswithamajorimpactoncharting.Briefingbulletinsarenumberedconsecutivelythroughouteachyear:

JEP+two-digityear+sequentialletter(a)§1.2IntroductionTheintroductiontabprovidesmanytoolsthathelpyouinterpretJeppesencharts,including:AglossarywhichprovidesdefinitionsformostofthetermsandabbreviationscommonlyusedonJeppeseninstrumentcharts.AlistofabbreviationsusedonJeppeseninstrumentcharts.Legendpagesforenrouteandterminalcharts,airportsins,andrunwaymarkings.WhenreferringtothisbookandJeppesencharts,keepinmindthefollowingconventions:Speedsareinknots.TimesareincoordinatedUniversalTime(UTC).Verticaldistancesaregiveninfeetunlessotherwisespecified.Horizontaldistancesaregiveninnauticalmilesunlessotherwisespecified.Bearingsaremagnetic,unlesssuffixedbyTforTrue.ChartProjectionsareLambertConformal=Trueangles/Trueareas.§1.3ChartChangeNoticesNoticestoAirman,containtime-critical,aeronauticalinformationthatcouldaffectyourdecisiontomakeaflight.Theinformationiseithertemporaryinnature,orunknownintimeforpublicationonaeronauticalchartsand/orinotherdocuments.ExamplesofinformationthatmaybeinChangeNoticesinclude:Airportorprimaryrunwayclosures.Changesinthestatusofnavigationalaids.Radarserviceavailability.Otherdataessentialtoenroute,terminal,orlandingoperations.ChartChangeNoticesarerevisedandreissuedeveryoneortwoweeks.Asyourpreflightplanning,youshouldobtainallthecurrentChangeNoticeswhichaffectyourrouteofflight.ItisimportanttonotethatJeppesenChartChangeNoticeshighlightonlysignificantchangesaffectingJeppesenCharts,alsoregularlyupdatedat.§1.4EnrouteEnroutetabusuallyincludesairwaystructuresandroutes,ATStextualandgraphicinformationconcerningentireenrouteflightphase.Theairwaystructure,routes,andcontrolledairspacemaybedepictedoncombinedhigh/lowaltitudeenroutecharts.Ifcongestedairspacedoesnotallowacombinationofhigh/lowaltitudecharts,thelowandhighaltitudeairspacedepictionisseparatedintolowaltitudeandhighaltitudeenroutecharts.§1.4.1TextualandGraphicInformationTextualandgraphicinformationprovidedbyJeppesenAirwayManualwillbevariedbycoverage.Thismayinclude:StockholmRadioinEuropeanCoverageAIRNCServicesandCommunicationsinNorthAmericanCoverageOceanicLongRangeNavigationInformationDesignatorsofATSRoutesandItsUseinVoiceCommunicationsAirlineOperationControl(AOC)EnroutechartindexPreferredIFRroutesInmanylocations,asystemofpreferredIFRrouteshasbeenestablished:toguidepilotsinplanningtheirrouteofflighttominimizeroutechangesduringtheoperationalphaseofflight,andtoaidintheefficient,orderlymanagementofairtrafficusingexistingairwaysandroutes.RouteAvailabilityDocuments(RAD)ConditionalRoute(CDR)SecondarySurveillanceRadar(SSR)Procedure

§1.4.2EnrouteChartsEnroutechartshelpyoukeeptrackofyourpositionandprovidetheinformationyouneedtomaintainasafealtitudeandensurenavigationsignalreception.ThelargenumberofnavaidsandthecomplexityoftheairwayandairspacesystemhasmadespecializedenroutechartsanecessityforIFRflight.§1.5RadioAidsRadioaidsareimportantwithregardtoflight.Airnavigationofaircraftmustrelyoncommunication,navigationandsurveillanceservicesprovidedbyradioaids.RadioAidstabofJeppesenairwaymanualprovidesradioaidinformationintextualandgraphicformat.§1.5.1GeneralInformationonRadioFacilityRadiofacilityinformationvariesbycoveragearea.Theinformationincludesnormallythefollowing:GeneralInformationAirNavigationRadioAidsSuchasNDB,VOR,TACAN,VORTAC,DME,ILS,SDF,MLS,listingofNAVAID,LORAN,IRU/INS/AHRS,GPS,WAAS,GLS,etc.RNAVandRNPRadarSurveillanceSystemRadioNavigationAidDirectionFindingProceduresRadioNavigationAidsLegend§1.5.2RadioAidsInformationTheRadioAidsintheWorldWideAirwayManualincludeslistingsofallradioaidswithinthecoveragearea,includingidentifier,frequency,andcoordinates.Thisinformationisgroupedstate-by-state.Attheendofeachstatelisting,you’llalsofindanILSlisting,alphabetizedbycityname.§1.5.3LORAN–CChainwithLimitsofCoverage
