Thissectionprovidesguidelinesonhowtouseparentheticalcitationstociteoriginalsourcesinthetextofyourpaper.Theseguidelineswillhelpyoulearntheessentialinformationneededinparentheticalcitations,andteachyouhowtoformatthemcorrectly.

Parentheticalcitationsarecitationstooriginalsourcesthatappearinthetextofyourpaper.Thisallowsthereadertoseeimmediatelywhereyourinformationcomesfrom,anditsavesyouthetroubleofhavingtomakefootnotesorendnotes.

TheAPAstylecallsforthreekindsofinformationtobeincludedinin-textcitations.Theauthor'slastnameandthework'sdateofpublicationmustalwaysappear,andtheseitemsmustmatchexactlythecorrespondingentryinthereferenceslist.Thethirdkindofinformation,thepagenumber,appearsonlyinacitationtoadirectquotation.
