李鴻蕊M.A.K.HallidayhasdevelopedideasstemmingfromFirth’stheoriesintheLondonSchool.Hissystemic-functionalgrammarisasociologicallyorientedfunctionallinguisticapproachandoneofthemostinfluentiallinguistictheoriesinthe20thcentury.Systemic-FunctionalLinguisticshastwoponents:SystemicGrammarandFunctionalGrammar.SystemicGrammarSystemicgrammaraimstoexplaintheinternalrelationsinlanguageasaSYSTEMNETWORK,orMEANINGPOTENTIAL.Andthisnetworkconsistsofsubsystemsfromwhichlanguageusersmakechoices.系統(tǒng)語法旳目旳是要闡明語言作為系統(tǒng)旳內(nèi)部底層關(guān)系,它是與意義有關(guān)聯(lián)旳可供人們不停選擇旳若干子系統(tǒng)構(gòu)成旳系統(tǒng)網(wǎng)絡(luò),又稱"意義潛勢"。Thenotionofsystemismadeacentralexplanatoryprinciple,thewholeoflanguagebeingconceivedasa“systemofsystems”.Hallidaydefinessystemasasystemofpotentials,arangeofalternatives.SystemicGrammarTheaxisofchainSurfaceaspectsofgrammar,suchassentencestructures,linguisticunits,andtheirranks(sentence,clause,group,word,andmorpheme)TheaxisofchoiceMeaningaspectsofgrammarAxisofchoice(paradigmatic)AxisofChain(syntagmatic)Thesystemofalanguageismadeupofmanysystems.Onagenerallevel,thereistheChainSystemandtheChoiceSystem.personFirstpersonSecondpersonThirdpersonnumbersingularpluralHeeatstheapple.Allsystemshavethreeessentialcharacteristics:Thetermsinasystemaremutuallyexclusive;AsystemisfiniteThemeaningofeachterminasystemdependonthemeaningofothertermsinthesamesystem.
