theresponsiblemanagementofbusiness.Allthroughthenineteenthcentury,

America,Africa,India,AustraliaandpartsofEuropewerebeingdevelopedby

Britishcapital,andBritishshareholderswerethusenrichedbytheworlds

movementtowardsindustrialization.TownslikeBournemouthandEastBourne

spranguptohouselargecomfortableclasseswhohadretiredontheirincomes,

andwhohadnorelationtotherestofthecommunityexceptthatofdrawing

dividendsandoccasionallyattendingashareholdersmeetingtodictatetheir

orderstothemanagement.OntheotherhandShareholdingmeantleisureand

freedomwhichwasusedbymanyofthelaterVictoriansforthehighestpurpose
