Theresearchersfoundthatthefruitthatspidermonkeyssmeltandtookabiteoutofroutinelyhadalcoholconcentrations

ofbetween1%and2%.Theripefruittheycollectedwasfromthejobotreeandwasamajorcomponentofthespidermonkey

diet.ButthefruitalsohasbeenusedbynativepeoplethroughoutCentralandSouthAmericatomakechicha,afermented

alcoholicdrink.
