TheSeventeenthCenI.SocialBackgroundThe17thcenturywasoneofthemosttempestuous[動(dòng)蕩的]periodsinEnglishhistory.ConflictsandclashesappearedbetweentheKingandtheParliament,whichrepresentedthebourgeoisclass.In1642,acivilwar(Englishrevolution)brokeoutbetweenCharlesIandtheparliament.Atlast,theroyalistsweredefeatedbytheparliamentarmyledbyOliverCromwell.In1649CharlesIwasbeheaded,andEnglandwasdeclaredtobeacommonwealth.AfterthedeathofCromwell,theparliamentrecalledCharlesⅡtoEnglandin1660andmonarchywasrestored,thenfollowedtheRestorationPeriod.In1688,thebourgeoisieinviteWilliam,princeofOrange;formHollandtobekingofEngland.Thisiscalledthe“GloriousRevolution”.ThisbloodlesseventcompletedthebourgeoisierevolutionandmodernEnglandwasfirmlyestablished.I.SocialBackgroundThe17thcReignsinthe17thCentury
