endofthestudy,thosewhohadlostweightafter
operationimprovedtheirscoresintotheaverageorabove
averagerangeforcognitivefunctions.Scoresforthe
volunteerswhodidn'tloseweightdroppedevenfurther.
ThestudyhelpedGunstadtofindoutwhetherlosingweight
hadanyeffectonmentalfunction.Nowthathe's
seenthepositiveeffectthatweightlosscanhaveonmemory
andattention,hesayshewillnextstudythosewho
choosetoloseweightbythetraditionalway-eatinghealthier
andgettingmoreactive.Heexpectsthatlosingweight
inthiswaywillhaveasimilarlypositiveeffectonthebrain.
