3.Participles:

Participlesareverbformsthatcanfunctionasadjectivesoraspartofaverbphrase.Theyareusuallyformedbyadding"-ed"or"-ing"tothebaseformoftheverb.Forexample:

-Thesatisfiedcustomerleftapositivereview.(participleasanadjective)

-Therunningwaterissorefreshing.(participleasanadjective)

-Havingfinishedtheexam,shefeltrelieved.(participleaspartofaverbphrase)

Non-finiteverbscanalsobeusedinvariousverbphrases,suchasinfinitivephrasesandparticipialphrases.Thesephrasesprovideadditionalinformationabouttheactionorstateofthemainverb.Forexample:

-Shewenttothestoretobuysomegroceries.(infinitivephrase)

-Thegirl,fascinatedbytheanimals,visitedthezooeveryday.(participlephrase)
