measuredwhentheMoonisaslimcrescent(新月)andtheweatherisclear,theteamcollectedamere801data
pointsduringthose20years,Goodeandhiscolleaguesreport.
Muchofthedecreaseinreflectanceoccurredduringthelastthreeyearsofthetwo-decadeperiodtheteam
studied,Goodesays.Previousanalysesofsatellitedata,heandhiscolleaguesnote,suggestthatthedropin
reflectancecamefromwarmertemperaturesalongthePacificcoastsofNorthandSouthAmerica,whichinturn
