investmentinresearchdepends,inpart,uponwidedistribution
andreadyaccess.Itisbigbusiness.InAmerica,thecore
scientificpublishingmarketisestimatedatbetween$7billion
and$11billion.TheInternationalAssociationofScientific,
TechnicalandMedicalPublisherssaysthattherearemorethan
2,000publishersworldwidespecializinginthesesubjects.
Theypublishmorethan1.2millionarticleseachyearinsome
16,000journals.
Thisisnowchanging.AccordingtotheOECDreport,some
75%ofscholarlyjournalsarenowonline.Entirelynewbusiness
modelsareemerging;threemaininstitutionalsubscriberspay
foraccesstoacollectionofonlinejournaltitlesthrough
