Bytheendofthesemester,Sswillcontinuetoimprovetheirspeakingabilityandbeableto

■polishtheiroralskillsandfurtherenhancetheiroralskillsthroughclassdiscussions,

presentationsandspeeches;

■useEnglishtoexpresstheirideasfluentlyandaccurately;

■developSs'academicEnglishabilitysoastomakethembetterpreparedfortheirmajor

academicstudies;

■vocabularyessentialforacademicsuccess

2.Content:

ThecontentisgenerallybasedontheoraltextbookEnglishfortheHotelandCatering

Industrybook2OxfordUniversityPress,includingsomerelevantacademicintroductiongiven

byteachersthemselves.Thelessonswillinvolvediscussions,learningandintroductionarounda

rangeoftopics.Themainfocusforteachersintheclassroomteachingshouldbeputonthe

speakingwiththereferenceofrelevantinformation,listeningmaterials,pictures,models,

exercises,questions,pairworkandreadingsorthemedarticlesfordiscussionprovidedbythetext

bookorsomerelevantreferenceorteacher'spersonalexperience.Ofcoursetheyareoptional

dependingontheneedandactivities.Andsomeassociatedexercisesshouldorcouldbeusedas

homework.ThecheckedhomeworkandfeedbacksshouldbegiventotheSstimely.

二、教學基本要求

1.CourseRequirementsandGrading

Duringthesemester,Sswillcompleteseveralassignments.They'llalsobegradedon

attendanceandclassparticipation,whichwillbebasedonintelligentdiscussioninclass.Sinceone

yearlateralltheSswillbeassessedbyTOFEL,weUlworkatanacceleratedpace.Keepupwith

them.Ifyoubegintofallbehind,itwillaffectyourfinalgrades.Ifyouworkconsistently,you511

Description:

Studentsareexpectedtoattendclassregularlyandparticipateactively.Inadditiontoregular,

activeparticipationanddoinghomework,studentsmustengageinsomemoreformaloral

activitiessuchasoralpresentationofassignment,deliveringspontaneousspeechesetc.Students

willnormallycompletethreeassignments.Andtherewillbeafterclasspracticeorhomework.At

theendofthetermSswillreceiveafinaloralexamination.

Eachassignmentispresentedasanoralreportwiththeaidofpptandwrittenwork,inwhich

5.Attendance

Thinkofthisintermsofyourcareeroryouroverallstudy:howmanyunexplainedabsences

wouldyoubeabletoaffordbeforebeingdisciplinedorfiredformyourjob?Alsorememberthat

yourpeerswillberelyingonyoufbrgroupprojectsordiscussion,fbrpeerwork,andfortheinput

thatyoubringtoclassdiscussions.Don'tletyourteammatesdown.Youwon'tsurvivefbrlongin
