英語中有Conversion(轉(zhuǎn)化法),Derivation(派生法),Compounding(合成法),Clipping(縮略法),Blending(混合法)Acronym(首尾字母縮略法)幾種構(gòu)詞法。

其中,派生法(Derivation)就是由詞根加上詞綴(前綴或后綴)構(gòu)成的新詞。后綴是加在一個單詞后面的音節(jié),能夠改變單詞的詞性,有的也可改變詞義。派生法在詞根前面加前綴或者在詞根后面加后綴,從而構(gòu)成一個和原單詞意義相近或者相反的新詞。1.前綴前綴一般改變單詞的意義,不改變詞性(除少數(shù)英語前綴外)1)表示否定意義的前綴dis-,il-,in-,ir-,mis-,non-,un-等,在單詞前加這類前綴常構(gòu)成與該詞意義相反的新詞。例如:like-dislike;happy-unhappy;existent-nonexistent;understand-misunderstand構(gòu)詞法(WordBuilding)2)表示其他意義的前綴:a-(多構(gòu)成表語形容詞),anti-(反對),auto-(自動),co-(共同),en-(使),inter-(互相),re-(又;再),sub-(下面的;次;小),tele-(強調(diào)距離)等。例如:like-alike;war-antiwar;matic-automatic;worker-coworker;large-enlarge;national-international;union-reunion;way-subway;phone-telephone2.后綴后綴一般改變單詞的詞性,少數(shù)后綴會改變單詞的詞義。1)構(gòu)成名詞的后綴-tion(動作;過程),-ness(性質(zhì);狀態(tài)),-ment(性質(zhì);狀態(tài)),-ian(精通……的人),-ist(專業(yè)人員),-er/or(從事某事的人)例如:produce-production;deaf-deafness;move-movement;music-musician;femine-feminist;lead-leader/direct-director2)構(gòu)
