websiteshowedthattherewerenowildlifeexpertsinourarea.Aftersomequickresearch,weconcludedthatthebestway

togivethesquirrelafightingchancewastocareforhimourselves.Soatriptothelocalstoreformilkandsupplieswasin

order.

Moreresearchtaughtushowmuchtofeedhim,howtoestimatehisage,howandwhentowean(斷奶)him,andthat

weshouldlethimgoassoonashecouldsurviveonhisown.

OurdaughtersandItookturnsinfeeding“Squirt."Kaytlintookonthemostresponsibility.Shetaughthimtoeatfrom

abottle,andshewokeinthenightforhisfeeds.

Toourrelief,Squirtsoonbecamehealthyandstrong.Withinafewweekshebecamemoreactive.Hewouldchatter(吱

吱叫)forhisnextmeal,playfullygoaroundthegirls,andliedownonthemforsleep.Itwasn'tlongbeforehewasweaned

ontosolidfoodandreintroducedtothewild.

Ithoughtthatwewouldjustbepassingoutdinnerstothoseinneed,butIfoundoutwewouldbedoingeverythingfrom

preparingtoservingthedinner.Webeganpreparingthefood,frommixingsaladdressingtoseparatingfrozenmeat.Muchstill

neededtobedonebeforedinnerwasserved,butalreadyoutsidethebuildingmanyhomelesspeopleweregathering.Itwasn*tuntil
