說明文,即用來解釋或說明事物、理論、方法、過程或某種抽象概念的文章。說明文的基本目的就是說清楚。也就是說,要讓人看了文章后對文章中解釋或說明的對象有清晰明確的認識。這就決定了說明文的基本特征是客觀和科學。
說明文首要的一點是明確說明的對象,然后用準確的語言,結(jié)合多種說明手法對之進行介紹和描述。常用的說明手法有下定義、分類別、作比較、引資料、舉例子、列數(shù)字、畫圖表等。下定義,即給要說明的對象下一個明確的定義。如博物館的定義就是征集、保藏、陳列和研究代表自然和人類的實物,并為公眾提供知識、教育和欣賞的文化教育機構(gòu)。分類別是將要說明的對象按照某種標準劃分類別,以幫助讀者對事物的理解。如電視機,可以分為彩色電視機和黑白電視機。作比較,即將這種事物與那種事物比較異同,從而更清楚地說明事物的特點。如將城市和鄉(xiāng)村作比較,將大學和幼兒園作比較等。作比較的時候一定要注意比較的事物之間應當具有可比性,不能生拉硬扯,也不能不尊重客觀事實,胡亂比較。為了說明某種事物的特點,有時候需要介紹它的背景、原理、歷史等,這時就要用到引資料這種手法。比如我們要對長城進行說明,適當?shù)匾靡恍v史文獻,就更有助于今天的人們了解長城的歷史,從而加深對長城中所蘊含的民族精神的認識。在復雜說明文中,列圖表具有不可替代的優(yōu)勢。大量的數(shù)據(jù)、冗長的敘述、復雜的相互關(guān)系等,都可以通過圖表得到直觀的表達。
按說明的對象不同,說明文可分為事物說明文和事理說明文。前者著重在于說明的成因、構(gòu)造、形狀、用途等,后者則重在說明事理。這兩類說明文常用的寫作手法也有一定的區(qū)別。比如事物說明文重在說明事物的物理特征,常用的是下定義、分類別等說明手法,事理說明文重在說明事物的邏輯特征,地要用到引資料、作比較等說明手法。但時候,在同一篇文章中,幾種說明手法都要用到,相輔相成,互為補充。
如何使說明文物理并重、形神兼?zhèn)涞哪?首要的一點是觀察。說明文寫作的前提是對要說明的事物非常熟悉。要做到這一點,就要養(yǎng)成認真觀察、深入了解的習慣:
觀察要有針對性。要帶著問題觀察,而不是走馬觀花、浮光掠影。最好能在觀察前列出觀察提綱,觀察時要記筆記、畫圖標。要善于提出問題。
觀察時要分清主次。這就要求我們注意觀察的順序。觀察有概括性觀察和特寫性觀察之分。前一種方法有助于抓住事物的概貌,后者則利于把握觀察對象的細節(jié)和特征。由概括到特寫、由全局到局部,是觀察的一般原理。
觀察重在事物的形。要想傳神,寫出事物的內(nèi)涵、原理等,則需要有很好的查閱資料、作調(diào)查的能力。比如我們要寫一篇文章來說明洛陽牡丹。在寫好它的形狀、顏色、品種之外,如果能夠考察一下洛陽牡丹的來歷、其中的牡丹名品在培育中的科學原理,這篇文章就會有說服力,使讀者更深刻地認識到洛陽牡丹的文化特色。這就要求我們具備相當?shù)闹R積累、廣闊的知識面和優(yōu)秀的調(diào)查能力。作為小,應當從小注重積累知識和調(diào)查能力的訓練。比如通過剪報、記筆記、上圖書館和閱覽室等途徑來有意識地訓練自己。
