你有沒有問過自己，為什么人們常常在學(xué)習(xí)英語方面有困難？我從未想過這個(gè)問題，直到有一天，我五歲

的兒子問我hamburger（漢堡包）里是否有ham（火腿）。答案是沒有。這讓我意識(shí)到eggplant（茄子）里也沒有

egg（雞蛋）。pineapple（菠蘿）里既沒有pine（松樹），也沒有apple（蘋果）。這讓我陷入思考：對(duì)于學(xué)習(xí)者而言，

英語到底可以有多瘋狂呢？

Andspeakingofhome,whyaren'thomeworkandhouseworkthesamething?

例如，我們可以在閑暇時(shí)雕刻一座雕像（sculptasculpture）＞畫一幅畫（paintapainting）,但我們只能拍一張

照片（takeaphoto）。旅行時(shí)，我們坐汽車或出租車時(shí)是說坐在里面（in）,但是坐火車或公共汽車時(shí)卻要說坐

在上面（on）!同樣，我們會(huì)在海上暈船（seasickatsea）＞在飛機(jī)暈機(jī)（airsickintheair）、在車?yán)飼炣嚕╟arsickin

acar）,但回到家里我們卻不會(huì)"暈家”（homesick,實(shí)際意為“想家的，思鄉(xiāng)的”）。說到家，為什么homework（家

庭作業(yè)）和housework（家務(wù)X這兩個(gè)英語單詞看起來很像意思卻）不是一回事呢？

3If“hard"istheoppositeof"soft”,whyare"hardly"and"softly“notanopposingpair?Ifharmlessactionsarethe

oppositeofharmfulactions,whyareshamelessandshamefulbehaviorsthesame?

如果說hard（硬）是soft（軟）的反義詞，為什么hardly（幾乎不）和softly（柔和地,輕柔地）卻不是一對(duì)反義詞呢？

如果說harmlessactions（無害的行為）與harmfulactions（有害的行為）意思相反，為什么無恥的行為（shameless

behaviors）和可恥的行為（shamefulbehaviors）反而是一回事？

上去”），也可以說burndown（字面意思是“燒下去”）；填表時(shí)，你可以說fillinaform（字面意思是“填入表

里）也可以說filloutaform（字面意思是“填到表外”）；而且只有鬧鐘走了（gooff字面意思是“離開”）以后你

才能聽到鈴聲！
