LoadaMIBFileinMIBBrowser

ToloadaMIBfileinMIBBrowser:

CompilethedesiredMIBfilewithMIBCompiler(youcanskipthis

stepifyouhavealreadycompiledtheMIBfile).Forproceduresand

detailsoncompilingMIBfiles,checkMIBCompiler'shelpfile.

Fromthemainwindow,selectthe'MIB'tab.

Fromthelowerwindowpanel,selectthe'MIBModules'tab.Clickthe

'Refresh'button(thecircularredarrowbutton).Selectthedesired

MIBfilefromthelistbyclickingitsname.Youcanselectmore

thanoneMIBfilebyholdingdownthe'Ctrl'keyonthekeyboard

whileclickingonMIBnames.IftheMIBfilecannotbelocatedinthe

list,itmighthavebeenalreadyloaded.

Clickthe'LoadtheSelectedMIBfiles'button(redup-arrowbutton).

Note:TheloadedMIBscanbesavedtoaMIBGroup.Intheupper

windowpanel,choosetheSaveMIBGroupcommandfromthepop-upmenu.

EnterthedesiredMIBGroupname.YoucanlaterloadallMIBfiles

fromthatgroupatonce.

Selectthe'SNMP|Contact'menucommand.

FromtheMIBTree,selecttheMIBnodeyouwishtoquery

(forexamplethe'sysDescr'node).

Selectthe'SNMP|Get'command.Thevalueofthe'sysDescr'OID

inthequeriedSNMPagentisprintedintheQueryResultsframe.

IftheselectedOIDisnotimplementedinthequeriedSNMPagent,

MIBBrowserprintsanerrorcodeasreceivedfromthequeried

SNMPagent.

Note:IftheselectednodeintheMIBTreeiswithinanSNMPTable

(forexample,the'ifAdminStatus'nodewhichisdefinedinthe

'ifTable'table),theprocedureisabitdifferent.Inadditiontothe

selectedOID,MIBBrowseralsoneedstoknowtheinstanceofthe

queriedobjectintheSNMPtable.Inordertosupplythisinformation,

youhavetoselecteitherthe'SNMP|Get|SelectInstance'or'SNMP|

Get|PromptForInstance'menucommand.

Incaseofselectingthe'SNMP|Get|SelectInstance'menucommand,

MIBBrowserwillsearchforallavailableinstancesoftheselected

OIDandyouhavetopickthedesiredonefromthelistofexisting

instances.

Ifselectingthe'SNMP|Get|PromptForInstance'menucommand,MIB

BrowseropenstheInstanceToQuerydialogboxwhereinyouenterthe

desiredinstance(forexample'1'ifyouwishtoquerythevalueof

theifAdminStatus.1object).

Selectthe'SNMP|GetNext'command.ThevalueoftheOID

implementedafterthe'sysDescr'OIDinthequeriedSNMPagentis

printedinthe'QueryResults'frame(mostprobablythevalueof

thesysObjectIDOID).

Inadditiontothat,theGetNextcommandoffersathirdpossible

commandforselectingthetableOIDinstance-the'SNMP|GetNext|

NoInstance'menucommand.Byselectingthatcommand,MIBBrowser

displaysthefirstinstanceoftheselectedtableOIDinthequeried

agent.

parametersbyclickingthe'Hammer'buttonnexttothe'RemoteSNMP

Agent'inputline.

Intothe'OIDinputline',enterthedesiredOID(forexample'0'if

youwishtostartthewalkfromtherootnode).Alternatively,you

canopentheSelectObjectIdentifierwindowbyclickingtheSelect

OIDfromMIBTreebuttonandpickinganOIDfromtheMIBTree.

ChecktheReuseresultOIDcheckbox.YoumaywishtounchecktheLog

responsemarkercheckboxinordertoomitprintingseparators

betweensteps.

Clickthe'GetNext'button.

ThevalueoftheGetNextoperationoftheselectedOIDisprinted

inthe'QueryResults'frame.MIBBrowseralsoupdatesthevaluein

the'OID''inputlineinthePromptforOIDdialogboxwiththeOID

receivedintheresponsetotheGetNextquery.

selecttheappropriatesyntaxintheSyntaxframe.

ClicktheSetValueinremote'SNMPAgent'buttononthetoolbar.

TheresultsoftheSNMPSEToperationareprintedinthe'Query

Results'frame.

Note:ForSNMPSEToperationswithmorethanoneOIDbindinginPDU,

youshouldusetheMultipleVariableBindingswindow.

DiscoverRemoteSNMPAgents

Fromthemainwindow,selectthe'Query'tab.

Intothe'RemoteSNMPAgent'inputline,typetheIPaddressofthe

remoteSNMPagent.

Ifnecessary,adjustSNMPaccessparametersintheSNMPProtocol

Preferencesdialogbox.(View|SNMPProtocolPreferences).Make

suretoenterthevalueoftheSetCommunityparameterproperly.

Selectthe'SNMP|Contact'menucommand.

Selectthe'Tools|DiscoveryWindow'menucommandtoopenthe

RemoteSNMPAgentDiscoverywindow.

EntertheIPdiscoveryrange(byspecifyingthedesiredIPaddresses

intothe'FirstAddresstoDiscover'and'LastAddresstoDiscover'

inputlines).Notethatinthecurrentlyreleasedversion,theIP

rangecancover255IPaddressesatthemost.

Ifnecessary,adjustotherSNMPaccessparametersbyclickingthe

'Hammer'buttonnexttothe'LastAddresstoDiscover'inputline.

MIBBrowserwilldiscoveronlyagentsthatrespondtotheselected

SNMPaccessparameters.

Clickthe'StartRemoteSNMPAgentDiscovery'button.

MIBBrowserwilldisplayalistofdiscoveredSNMPagentswith

theirsystemnames,addresses,andsomeotherproperties.

Optionally,youcanrepeatthediscoveryoperationeitherona

differentIPrange(step5)orwithdifferentSNMPaccessparameters

(step6).Byrepeatingstep7(clickingthe'StartRemoteSNMPAgent

Discovery'button),MIBBrowseraddsnewlydiscoveredagentstothe

existinglist.Ifyouclickthe'Refresh'buttoninsteadofthe

'StartRemoteSNMPAgentDiscovery'button,MIBBrowserclearsthe

listbeforestartinganewdiscoveryoperation.

Note:Ifyoudouble-clickalineinthelistofdiscoveredSNMPagents,

MIBBrowserwillopenanewwindow,theInfowindow,containingmore

informationaboutthisSNMPagent(describedinthenextexample).

FromtheMIBTree,selectanSNMPTablerootnode,forexamplethe

displaythetableintabularview.

Ifnecessary,adjustSNMPaccessparametersintheSNMPProtocol

Preferencesdialogbox(byclickingtheHammerbutton).

Intothe'Object'inputline,entertheOIDtobegraphedorselect

itbyclickingthebuttonnexttotheinputline.Ifitisatable

OID,selecttheappropriateindex(mustbe0forscalarOIDs).

Selectthecolor,shapeandwidthofthelinetobeusedfordrawing

thisvalue.Ifnecessary,adjustthescale.
