2、ity. the traditional image of the tow n is an en dless pat tern of single family dwel1ings, interconnected by traffic-clogged freeways, where transit is undeveloped and the air is choked with smog.however, los angeles is changing. the city" s twnsport authority has planned in the last years a s

3、eries of measures aiming to improve quality of life through improving transit and walking and providing alternative to car commuting.the last measure of this series is measure r,approved in november 2008, whose aims are:1. expand los angeles railway system, and connect it to the airport2. improve ro

4、ads, making them safer for cyclist and pedestrians3. reduce higway congestion and improve highway safety4. expand the bus network, without increasing fares5. improve quality of life, trough better transportation options.measure r is a perfect occasion to rethink the image of the city, getting rid of

5、 its stereotypes, and in this direction goes the competition "a new infrestructure “, organized by scifi (southern california institute for future initiativcs) and the architcct, s newspaper, whose results have been published on march 21, 2009here are the results.professional winners.1st prize:
