3、 English and create English-learning circumstances. However, with the limitation of students vocabulary, teachers have to simplify their teaching language with the help of Body Language. Body language has been widely used in communication out of class. At the same time, it plays a very important rol
4、e in English teaching.In thisarticle,the author will discuss the necessity and importance of using body language in English teaching. It can strengthen the teachers charm; stir the students interest; make teaching becomeSimple; understand students clearly; and help to improve the four basic skills o
5、f learning language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The author also discusses the using of three major kinds of body language in English teaching and the principles of using the body language teaching .At the same time, the author also discusses the application of body language in Englis
6、h teaching. The forty-five minutes in class is very precious if a teacher wants to get more effective he must use the body language properly and correctly.Key Words: Body Language; English Teaching; Facial Expressions; Postures摘要隨著英語教學(xué)法的不斷深入發(fā)展,人們要求英語教師在課堂上使用英語組織教學(xué),并為學(xué)生學(xué)習(xí)英語創(chuàng)設(shè)學(xué)習(xí)環(huán)境。然而,由于學(xué)生詞匯量的限制,教師在課堂上
7、要簡化自己的語言,這就需要肢體語言的協(xié)助。肢體語言在課堂上得到了廣泛的應(yīng)用。同時(shí),在英語教學(xué)中它也扮演了非常重要的角色。在這篇文章中,筆者主要論述了肢體語言在教學(xué)中的重要性:能引起學(xué)生興趣,能促進(jìn)和諧的師生關(guān)系,能幫助教師簡化教學(xué),以與如何恰當(dāng)?shù)氖褂媚抗庹Z、手勢(shì)語、面部語言等肢體語言。同時(shí)也指出了使用肢體語言需要注意的幾點(diǎn)事項(xiàng)和肢體語言在英語教學(xué)中的應(yīng)用。四十五分鐘的授課時(shí)間是極為短暫的,要向短短的四十五分鐘要效益,就要求教師盡可能的合理使用肢體語言,大大加強(qiáng)自己的教學(xué)效果。關(guān)鍵詞:肢體語言;目光語;手勢(shì)語;面部表情;儀態(tài)語AcknowledgementsThis thesis is the

Such cramming method of teaching brings up the students who have good marks but low ability If teachers want to arouse the students interests so that they can learn better encourage them and enhance the efficiency of classroom teaching they have to use all kinds of ways. Usingbody language in the
15、 English teaching is one of them.Body language studies are now in academia a brand new theory .So body language application in classroom teaching exploration still are short .American psychologist James Asher JPR teaching is the body language in the teaching experiment.Combined with myself in Englis
16、h teaching how to use body language I tried to discuss the application of body language in English teaching .This thesis aims to research the necessity and importance of body language and there are four major kinds of body language in this thesis and we will discuss how to use of them properly and c
17、orrectly and we will discuss some principles when we use the body language.1 The Necessity and Importance of Using Body Language in English TeachingBody language is an important media through which people communicate with each other .It refers to the process of communicating what you are feeling or
18、thinking by the way you place and move your body rather than by words. A famous anthropologist E.T. Hall pointed “silent languages express more information than verbal language.” Because body language is used more times than verbal language. The United States psychologist Albert Melabin, 1968, made
19、an experiment to prove that the total result of the I information 7writing 38tone 55countenance and movement. And the specialist on body language research Fen Lafel Angles once said “Once body language was lost a body couldnt have grown into a normal person.” So body language plays an essential role
20、 in human communication. Everyone knows with the continual reform and opening of China English is becoming more important in many fields for example in economy sport and science. The development of society is in great need of a large number of people with rich English knowledge .The wildest use of E
21、nglish is to communicate .And with the continual reform of language teaching and learning methods teachers are in great demand to organize the classes in English and create English learning circumstances .So communicated English is very important. Communicated English means that teachers teach Engli
22、sh in English and the students are also required to use English in class .However with the limitation of students vocabulary teachers have to organize their 6teaching with the body language. From the above we can see that body language is important and necessary for the English teaching. It not only
23、 can strengthen teachers charm arouse the students interest establish more smooth inter personal relation between the teachers and students but also can make the teaching become simpler and it helps to improve the four basic skills of learning language listening speaking reading and writing.1.1 The
24、Definition of Body LanguageBody language is known as non-verbal behavior which transmits information through gestures, movement and facial expression. People communicate with each other by their body language in the ways of nodding, eye contacting, shrugging and so on. According to the psychologists
25、 research, these ways can express something that verbal language can not directly express. Body language can be divided into sight language; body touches language, posture, gesture, manner, facial expression, and clothes language.1.2 Functions of Using Body Language1.2.1 Stirring the Students intere
26、stsA famous person ever said, “Interest is the best teacher.” So attracting and improving the students interest is a very important part of English teaching. There are many ways to arouse the students interest. Body language used in English teaching is one of them. The linguist Mr Lu ever said: “The
27、 foreign language teacher should be able to perform and dance for joy made a vivid gesture movement and countenance as an actor should not always be gentle and cultivated or just stand stiffly on the platform.” But how do we attract the students interests by using body language Below I will example
28、to illustrate this problem. For example: When teachers teach the words of the body parts such as :“head” “nose” “face” “hand”they can let the students touch their body own body parts. By using body language the students must be full of pleasure in this class. So body language plays an important role
29、 in Stirring the students interest.1.2.2 Helping to Improve the Four Basic Skills of Learning Language: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and WritingUsing body language can help to improve the four basic skills of learning language: listening speaking reading and writing.A: Body language helps to improv
30、e listening.The Greek philosopher Epictetus ever wittily said: “Nature has give man one tongue and two ears that he may hear twice as much as he speaks.” From the saying we can learn how important the listening is in our daily life. To understand others is a basic purpose in English teaching and tea
31、chers often train the students listening accordingly .In this process if the body language is used the effect will be better.B: Body language helps to improve speaking.The spoken language is one of the important ways to communicate. So we should try to develop the students ability of speaking. Factu
32、ally they are helped to reach the aim in a certain degree by their teachers body language. The contemporary emphasis gradually laid on spoken English teaching. The first lesson of every unit in Senior English begins with dialogue. The teaching programs require the teachers to organize the class to p
33、ractice English according to the characteristics of dialogue. Generally speaking the body language can arouse and sustain the students interest of leaning and using English. In the English class the teachers should not only use body languages themselves but also ask the students to use them accordin
34、g to the different situation.C: Body language helps to improve reading. Reading aloud helps the students to get a correct pronunciation and intonation and to develop the combination of vocabularies pronunciation spelling and meaning. Furthermore it also helps the students to find out the articles in
35、ternal feelings and appreciate the beauty of the language. A linguist ever said: “A poem is not a poem until it is read.” Reading aloud is basic for the middle school students. And the teachers should make full use of body language to develop the students ability of reading aloud.In a word the vivid
36、 gesture together with the fluent English can create a good circumstance of learning, which will surely play an active part in improve the students reading ability.D: Body language helps to improve writing.Writing is one of the four basic skills of learning language, and it is so important a skill t
37、hat we can even say without it, people can not communicate with others. Not only should the students get some English knowledge and vocabularies, but also the ability to communicate in spoken and written English as what is mentioned in the teaching programs. To some extent, writing is much more impo
38、rtant than speaking, for it can spread without the limitation of apace and time .Since the students learn English as a media for communication, they should have the ability of writing.The linguist Franklin ever said: “Tell me, I will forget; teach me, I will remember; involve me and I will learn.” I
39、f we asked the students to write an unfamiliar composition, they would probably be unable to and feel discouraged. However the students can write excellent articles if they have the experience.2. The Using of ThreeMajor Kinds of Body Languages in English Classroom Teaching2.1 The Using of Eyesight i
40、n English TeachingAs saying goes: “The eyes are the window of the soul.” That is to say, we can read ones mind through his eyes .Eye language can express complicated feelings and it is an important way to judge the relationship of communicators. People from English speaking countries have more eye c
41、ontact when they are in conversation. As the result, the teacher should use the eyesight effetely in the English class.First, teachers could get to know what the students doubt, how they love or hate whether they approve or disprove from the students sight.Second, teachers could know whether the stu
42、dents fully focus on the lesson through their eyes.If a student who listens to the teacher carefully ,he should follow the teacher with the eyesight .If there is a student looking around the classroom ,that expresses he didnt listen to the teacher carefully.Third, a teacher should always use a kind
43、of eyesight to his students. For example, if the students are still exciting before class, the teacher can look around the whole class to express the meaning that it is the class time. And when you start the class, you find someone is late for class, you had better use your eyesight to allow him/her
44、 to come into the classroom, in order to avoid disrupting the other students attention.In short, the loving and kind eyesight often make the students follow the teaching contents .It is useful for English teaching.2.2 The Using of Facial Expressions in English Teaching“The face has been called an or
45、gan of emotion.” Because we constantly read facial expressions to understand what others are feeling. The face provides vital clues to our own feelings and those of the people around us. Of all the nonverbal Channels, the face is the most important broadcaster of emotions.” Because the face can clea
46、rly convey several specific emotions,such as: happiness, surprise fear anger ,sadness and so on .so if the teacher can use the facial expressions in our teaching properly, which will get the same success as the dumb show.First, the teacher should learn to adjust own facial expressions. Just imagine
47、the following two different situations. One teacher enters the classroom with a smile; another teacher walks into the classroom very seriously; obviously, these two different teachers will make the students act differently. The first teacher can bring an active atmosphere. But the second teacher wil
48、l bring the students silence because of his dull facial expression.Second, the teacher should pay much attention to the students facial expression to get the information. On the basis of this, the teacher can adjust their teacher to be better. In the class, if a student is always filled smiling, it
49、expresses he can grasp easily what the teacher said ;if a student face is full of bewilderment, which express he cant understand what the teacher said. So, if a teacher is good at observing the students facial expression, he must make a great success in teaching.2.3 The Using of Postures in the Engl
50、ish Teaching“Postures are a matter of how people sit, walk, stand, and move.” It is body language most explicit representation. Frond once said “No one can really keep secret. If he does not talk and keep silent, he will talk with his fingers. In a whole, part of his body will sell him out.” In fact
51、, this statement refers that peoples body languages, especially postures can deliver more hidden information.In classroom teaching, the students body postures. An elegant gesture teacher can provide students with a good visual experience, and can make the students have a pleasant mood. And It can he
52、lp the students to cultivate their English course of interest. Conversely, if a teacher has some small bad habits, such as hands rub, nose pick, legs treblthese can disperse the students attention, and these can make them be fed up with the teacher, so that they lose their interests for English.Firs
53、t, the teachers should have elegant posture of sitting and standing when a teacher sits, he should sit straight; and when he stands, he should high up his head.Second, a teacher had better not wear the shoes with high heels, because when a teacher walks, high heels can possibly disturb the students
54、attention.Third, the teacher should learn to walk into the students hearts. For example ,when the students discuss the questions, you can walk in the middle of them to help them solve the questions; and when you have classes, if someone make mistakes ,you can walk closely the students to warm him he
55、 mustnt do that. In a word, as a teacher, you should walk into the students hearts really. It will be useful for the English teaching.At last, the tone and speed when you speak are the ways of postures.From the above, we already have known tone is very important to transfer the information .In the E
56、nglish classroom teaching, tone is also play an important role. When a teacher teaches some language points, he can emphasize the important parts by raising the tone and slowing the speed.From the above, we can see the postures play important role in the English teaching.3 The Principles of Using th
57、e Body Language TeachingIf a teacher wants to use the body language in his teaching class, he must pay attention to the following notes: A: Using body language in English classes must accord with the physical features of middle school students and the teaching contents. B: Preparing earnestly the st
58、udents, designing body language problems for them C: Doing the same for the whole students; respect, believe, love the students! D: Using body language must cooperate to the verbal language.
