18、donewhenneeded.Afaitaccompli,aFrenchidiom,meansadecisionthathasbeenmadeoracompletedactionthatcannotbechanged.5.NeologismidiomsManyEnglishidiomshaveverydeeprootsinhistoryandculture.Theyhavetheiroriginsintraditionalskills,suchassailingandinsuchthingsasancientmyths,literatureandwar.However,newidiomsevo

19、lveallthetimefromTV,advertising,politicsandbusiness.Theseidiomsoftenquicklybecomeexpressionsunderstoodandusedbymanypeopleintheireverydaylives.Someoftheseidiomswillbepopularforafewyearsbutthengetforgotten;othersmaylast.Forexample:IsMadonnastillthefirstladyofthepop?Here“thefirstladyofreferstotheexpert,orthebestbyanalogywithhowthewifeofaUSpresidentisreferredtoastheFirstLady;“Imfedupwithhimbigtime.here“bigtimemeans“extremely.6.ConclusionEnglishidiomsareanimportantpartoftheEnglishlanguage.Becauseofthestrongculturalcharacteristicsitcarries,idiomaddsobstaclesanddifficultiesforEnglishlearner
