I was born in Xiamen, Fujian Province in China on November 8, 1969. Later, my fam

2、ily moved to Beijing where I grew up. I am from a family of academics. My father is a professor of linguistics and Chief of the University Journal Agency of Beijing Language and Culture University (formerly Beijing Language Institute). My mother is a professor at the same university and teaches Chin

3、ese as a foreign language. From 1991 to 1993, my mother taught Chinese at Wittenberg University, Ohio and Indiana University at Bloomington. She encouraged me to apply for admission to advanced programs in the U.S. I graduated from high school in 1988, and received the highest scores in my school at

4、 the National Entrance Examination for Universities. This made me an “Honor Student” at the national level. Upon acceptance to Beijing Language and Culture University, my major became English, with minors in linguistics, French and computer science. I was awarded consecutive scholarships for all fou

5、r years in college. During my college years, I became more and more interested in linguistics. My senior year was largely devoted to topics in linguistics, and my required thesis work focused on the influence of cultural and educational factors upon the Chinese and English languages. After college,

6、Beijing Science & Technology University employed me. For the first year and a half I was assigned to a project aimed at creating improved computer program for idiomatic English-Chinese & Chinese-English translations. This project proved me with considerable experience linguistics, and further improv

7、ed my understanding of the subtleties of both English and Chinese. Since the project completion, I have been teaching intensive English courses at Beijing Science and Technology University. Since July of 1993, I have taught English listening comprehension at Beijing Language and Culture University.

8、The latter classes are part of a program that provides adult Chinese professionals with opportunity to improve their English. My interest in linguistics is initially based on my desire to better comprehend the English language, and, in the process, learn more about my own language. China is now open

9、ing and engaging in ever expanding cultural and financial relations with the English-speaking countries of the West. It has struck me, as it may have occurred to many of my compatriots that negotiations to bring about these new and improved relations sometimes break down because of mutual ignorance

10、about each others languages. I am aware that this has been a popular problem for study, among Americans engaging in business and other fields, but I am not aware of any serious attempt to research this problem from a Chinese point of view. Through my work in the U.S., I would hope to contribute to a

11、 better understanding of the problems inherent in the deep differences between the two languages. I recognize that a thesis project in most graduate schools is chosen after on has studied in various programs in a department and after extensive discussion with ones professors. Nevertheless, I would h

12、ope that investigating socio-cultural differences between English and Chinese might be considered a suitable topic. Such a study would focus on the cultural, historical, traditional and educational factors, which influence the two languages, and significantly contribute to possible misinterpretation

13、s. My long-term plan is to continue working on comparative aspects of English and Chinese linguistics. I strongly desire to work in an academic environment combining teaching, research and writing. I heard that your EnglishLinguistics Department has a reputation for academic excellence. I am applyin

Yours sincerely, 新加坡留學大學申請條件與流程 一、加坡大學申請條件 1、公立院校 高中生必須參加完高考后才可以申請這三所大學的本科生,而且高考分數(shù)在500分以上,雅思成績在6分以上。如果成績沒有達到,那么可以參加新加坡政府舉行的A水準考試,通過后也可以就讀這三所學校。公立大學碩士學位一般要求中國211工程大學學士學位,大學平均分80以上,雅思6.5以上(部分專業(yè)要求7.0)。 2、理工院校 高中生

15、必須參加完高考后才可以申請這五所理工學院的大專課程,而且高考分數(shù)在500分以上,雅思成績在6分以上。如果成績沒有達到,那么就可以參加新加坡政府舉行的O水準考試,通過后也可以就讀這五所學校。 3、政府資助學校 此類大學是新加坡政府資助,屬半公立性質(zhì)。中國學生就讀期間享受待遇與公立學校一樣,享受政府的學費補貼,在讀期間允許合法打工,畢業(yè)留新工作可直接申請綠卡。入學要求如下:高中、中專畢業(yè)或大學在讀生;具備一定的藝術基礎;英文要求,無需托福、雅思成績。 4、私立學院 新加坡私立教育機構(gòu)采取的是寬進嚴出的管理模式,因此要做好充分的心理準備來應付入學后刻苦的學習與適應環(huán)境的能力。一般私立大學要求如下:高

16、二以上學歷或高中畢業(yè);存款證明16萬人民幣;不需要托福雅思。 二、新加坡留學申請流程 1、提交資料階段 第一步:查詢學校資料,可以通過各種途徑如寫信或上網(wǎng)來查詢學校的資料。 第二步:提出書面申請,校寫信向自己選擇的學校索要入學簡章、入學申請表、獎學金申請表等各種入學材料。 第三步:填寫申請表,填寫前,要先仔細閱讀說明,以免遺漏某些重要內(nèi)容;填寫申請表要整齊清楚,每個問題要盡量回答完整。 第四步:提供考試成績,留學新加坡也要考TOEFL,報考新加坡國立大學或南洋理工大學的研究生,惟一的途徑就是考TOEFL,而且成績在580分以上。 第五步:提供大學成績單,申請新加坡讀研究生必須附上大學成績單;申

17、請大學本科要附高中成績單,除了中、英文成績單外,還要有成績公證書。成績單上要有修讀課程名稱、學分、成績及班上排名申請新加坡留學流程詳解申請新加坡留學流程詳解。 2、準備資料階段 第一步:學歷和學位的復印件及公證書,出國留學一般要提供畢業(yè)證書和學位證書的中、英文復印件及其公證書。 第二步:準備推薦信,大多數(shù)學校要求申請人提供23封推薦信,推薦信要說明被推薦人的基本情況、成績,囊括學術論文、科研成果、獲得獎勵、所具備的能力等。 第三步:寫好個人陳述,個人陳述對是否獲得獎學金尤其重要。 第四步:經(jīng)濟擔保證明,出具相關銀行存款或親友經(jīng)濟資助證明,如學校提供全額獎學金,可不提供此證明。如親友擔保,需由擔

18、保人填寫有關表格,并附上有關證明。 3、申請準備階段 第一步:體檢表或健康證明,一般學校都要求申請人提供體驗表,這種表格由學校提供,要申請人找醫(yī)生填寫并簽字申請。 第二步:食宿申請表,有些大學規(guī)定新生一律住校,也有的自由選擇。如果打算住校要及早申請,有的學校要求預付押金才能保證預留宿舍房間。 第三步:正式提出申請,將所有申請材料連同申請費一起提交所選定的學校。 第四步:錄取,如果申請入學獲得批準,申請人會收到學校的入學通知和用于申請簽證的學校入學許可。 4、行前準備階段 第一步:獲得錄取后,然后就是申請護照和簽證。護照辦理比較簡單,準備好戶口,照片,身份證等到公安局出入境管理處辦理,具體辦理要

19、求可以網(wǎng)上察看所在地公安部門的要求。留學除了獲得學校錄取,簽證是另一決定因素了。簽證一般由各國使領館簽發(fā)。申請簽證的材料和要求,可以網(wǎng)上查找。但是簽證的申請不像護照那么簡單,材料的制作和申請都有技巧,拒簽是常事。 第二步:買好機票,收拾好行前準備。 新加坡留學優(yōu)勢解讀 1、生活環(huán)境 新加坡曾被譽為“花園城市國家”,因為地理位置優(yōu)越,約有23%的國土屬於森林或自然保護區(qū)。氣候適宜,因為位于馬來半島最南端,全年氣溫約在24到32之間。四季常夏,綠樹成蔭、最適合人們居住,宛如一所特大花園。 良好的治安也是值得一提的。新加坡的經(jīng)濟格局、政體模式是亞太地區(qū)許多國家效仿的對象,而其治安環(huán)境更是亞洲地區(qū)的典型。 2、教育氛圍 新加坡政府非常重視教育的投入和發(fā)展。公立大學的
