9、artial arts movies have nothing to do with fighting and everything to do with personal excellence. Their heroes transcend (go beyond) space, gravity(重力), the limitations of the body and the fears of the mind. In a fight scene in a Western movie, it is assumed（設定） the fighters hate each other. In a m

10、artial arts movie, its more as if the fighters are joining in a celebration of their powers.s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the most exciting martial arts movie I have seen. There is a sequence(連續(xù)鏡頭) near the beginning of the film involving a chase（追逐） over rooftops, and as the characters run up

11、 the sides of walls and leap impossibly from one house to another, the critics applauded（鼓掌）, something they rarely do during a film, and I think they were related to the physical grace of the scene. It is done so lightly, quickly, easily.Watching this scene, I thought it was being done with some ki

12、nd of computer trickery. I knew this because I knew the actors were not really 40 feet in the air holding onto those trees. I was wrong. Everything we see is real, Lee told me. Computers were used only to remove the safety wires that held the actors. So those were stunt(特技) people up there? I asked,

13、 doubted. Not for the most part, he said. Maybe a little stunt work, but most of the time you can see their faces. Thats really them in the trees. 15、ome level just plain silly, but Ang Lee is unusually successful in bringing out the human elements（元素）, especially the unrealized love between the Chow Yun-Fat and Michelle Yeoh characters. There are times when theyre together that you forget about the swords, and are just watching a man and a woman

16、, gently cherishing (enjoy) the unspoken bond between them. Zhang Ziyis character, the governors daughter, is also interesting because she challenges the rules that limit her and realizes a secret fantasy life.Crouching Tiger also pays a lot of attention to female power, an idea which earlier films

17、with skilled women fighters never developed. In most wuxia films, women are placed below men in the Confucian tradition, even if they are a match(equal) for their male competitors in combat and possess a degree of independence.There are those, I know, who will never go to a martial arts movie, but like all great movies, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon transcends its o
