2、mation carried by Voyager1.Learn to prepare a short presentation and express opinionsproperly.Deepen the understanding of human civilization and foster nationalpride.Analysis of materials and studentsAnalysis of mater ials(1) What Theme and Contentgsis the last part of the whole unit, which is meant
3、 for developing students ability of organizing a presentation that is meaningful, relevant and has a creative angle. Students are supposed to take the opportunity to learn something new, think out of the box and share their ideas by applying the useful words, expressions and structures learned in th
4、isunit.WhyPurposegsoffers opportunities for developing skills and knowledge together. This process canstrengthen learning and enthusiasm for further knowledge. The designed task is intended to cultivate students scientific thinking quality. Through reading, thinking and presenting, students will lea
5、rn more about the spirit of exploration, thus cultivating students thinking quality of scientific knowledge. Both the presenter and audience will learn from each other through the exchange of thoughts.How Structure andStyleThis part is made up of reading, discussion, preparing and giving a presentat
6、ion to the class. It is typically task-based learning material. Students need to combine what they have learned in this unit with new information they get from this class.Analysis of Students: Senior two studentsSenior Two students might find it easy to understand the news report. Yet it might be a
7、bit challenging when they have to come up with three things to be put on a disc.Meanwhile, in this period, the most important objective is learning to solve problems based on what they have learned. Students may not achieve this individually and the task can create a strong desire for them to collab
8、orate with others and search for more information on this topic.Revision: Help students recall what they have learned in this unit. By considering the be or not to be” question, they will understand why people are willing to risk their lives to go into space. The recap of two reading passages functi
9、ons as a summary of the whole unit.Lead-in: Use multimedia resources (NASAs gift to aliens video clips) to activate students background knowledge about sending items along with the spaceship into outer space, and guide students to think about the reasons why the designer chose the information to bes
10、ent.Introduction&Reading: Provide students with detailed information regarding what put on the disc. There were recordings of greetings, music and sounds from Earth, and many photographs of our world on the disc, each of which would remind students of how wonderful the planet is. Their interest will
11、 be aroused by looking at the pictures and reading the quotation from CarlSagan.Further thinking: By visualizing Zhurongs Mars expedition, students will be motivated to think about the question-what could be put on the probe, except for the camera and other staff for scientificresearch?Brainstorming
12、: Students will be encouraged to think independently on the presentation topic. This step is served as a transition for students to go further into the topic and get prepared for the short presentation .Scaffolding for presentation: A complete presentation consists of five main parts and students ne
13、ed to be informed of the basic structure. Enough scaffolding can help them finish the homework in a more efficient way.Homework: By searching for the information concerning the three things theyd like to put on the disc, organizing the collected information in logical order and recording a video of
14、the presentation, students will gain a all-round development after finishing thetask.TeachingProceduresStep 1 RevisionHelp students review what they have learned in this unit by thinking about the following questions:Considering the dangers of going into space, would you like to go there if given th
15、e chance? If you do, could you share yourreasons?In what different ways do the two reading passages in this unit reflect the spirit ofexploration?Ask students to take out the picture that they have drawn in the part of Using language and retell the story of space exploration.5 minutesStep 2 Lead-inS
