catch/killhelpThewhalerhuntingatthebeginningof20thcentury捕鯨(whalehunting)，將系有繩索的铦或叉、鏢等，采用射擊或投擲方式刺入鯨體進行獵捕。獵捕對象有須鯨和齒鯨兩類，以藍鯨、長須鯨、露脊鯨、抹香鯨、座頭鯨、北極鯨、灰鯨、鳁鯨、小鳁鯨等為主。由于鯨油是貴重的工業(yè)原料，歷史上歐洲和美洲一些國家的捕鯨活動長盛不衰。自20世紀(jì)中葉起，由于過度獵捕導(dǎo)致資源衰退以及國際上對捕鯨的限制，捕鯨業(yè)已趨衰落。

Background傳統(tǒng)捕鯨方法:6名捕鯨者離開大船，乘小艇追逐鯨魚，小艇通常長8.5公尺，裝備有具倒鉤的捕鯨铦和長索。鯨一旦被铦刺中，便帶著繩索逃遁，直到筋疲力盡浮出水面，人們在那兒用捕鯨槍(一種更長的捕鯨铦)將它殺死，用繩索拖到大船邊，用有刃的長槍割取油脂，并把尸體拋棄。現(xiàn)代捕鯨業(yè)肇:挪威人福伊恩發(fā)明了一種捕鯨炮，用來發(fā)射內(nèi)充炸藥的標(biāo)槍。后來又使用了動力船，與捕鯨炮相得益彰，這些方法使用至今幾乎沒有什么變化。
