停下來去做某事如：Pleasestoptalkingaloud.請不要大聲說話。Theystoppedtolisten,buttherewasnomoresound.他們停下來一聽，但已經(jīng)沒有什么聲音了。trydoing試著做某事trytodosth盡力去做某事Whynottrydoingitinsomeotherway?為什么不用其他辦法試一試呢？ItriedtosolvetheproblembutIcouldn’t.我試圖解答那個數(shù)學(xué)題，但我解不出。

“做做看”之意“想要努力去做”之意，但實際上有沒有做是另一回事。meantodosth打算做某事meandoing意味著……

如：Missingthebusmeanswaitingforanotherhour.趕不上那班巴士就要等一個小時。IamsorryIhurtyou,butInevermeantto.抱歉我傷害了你，但我本來沒有這個意思。regretdoing對于……感到遺憾/后悔regrettodosth因……感到遺憾Iregretlendinghimsomuchmoney.Heneverpaidmeback.我很后悔借給他那么多錢。他從來沒有還過我。Iregrettotellyouthatyoufailedthetest.我遺憾的告訴你你沒有通過考試。②動詞like,love,prefer后接不定式或動詞-ing形式作賓語均可。但有一些細(xì)微的差別。如表示經(jīng)常性、習(xí)慣性的動作常用動詞-ing形式，如表示特定情況或具體動作則常用動詞不定式。如：Ilikelisteningtomusicofthiskind.Iliketolistentothissong.Theyprefergoingtothebeachinsummer.Theyprefertobealonenow.表示一般情況表示一般情況表示特定情況表示特定情況注意：如果like,love,prefer前有would/should時，后面則接動詞不定式。如：I’dliketogoswimmingthisweekend.本周我愿意游泳。Iwouldlovetomeetyourparents.我想見你的父母。③begin,start,continue后跟不定式和動詞-ing形式，通常沒有差別。但在下列三種情況下，其后需用動詞不定式：A.

當(dāng)begin/start用于進(jìn)行時時;B.

當(dāng)begin/start的主語是物時；C.

當(dāng)其后的動詞為不可以用于進(jìn)行時的表示心理活動或精神狀態(tài)的動詞時。如：Iambeginningtorememberit.我開始記起這件事了。Thesnowbegantomelt.雪開始融化。Hebegantofeelafraid.他開始覺得害怕。Itstartedtorain.雨開始下了。④need表示“需要”，require表示“要求”，want表示“想要”時后面接動詞-ing形式或tobedone結(jié)構(gòu)。如：
