ChenJiisthedirectoroftheElPopolaCinio,China'sfirstEsperantomagazineandoneofthethreeoutletsinChinathatpublishinthelanguage.ShesaidthenumberofEsperantospeakershasdeclinedsincethe1970sand1980swhenChina'sreformsledtoariseofinterestinforeignlanguages.
However,shedoesnotbelievethismeansadecreaseinEsperanto'spopularity.ShesaysChina'sEsperantocommunityhasbolstereditselfinotherways,suchasitspresenceattheCongress.
