①Extinctions,whereentirespeciesarewipedout,arenotunusualinourEarth’shistory.Infact,over90percentofallspeciesthateverlivedarenowextinct.Inthelast500millionyears,therehavebeenfivetimeswhenlifeonEarthhasalmostended.Theseincludethethirdmassextinction,knownasthe“GreatDying”,whichkilled90%to96%ofallspecies.Andthefifthevent,whichoccurred66millionyearsago,causedthedeathofthedinosaurs.Thereasonsforextinctionsarevaried.Accordingtoscientists,theyincludevolcaniceruptions,asteroidshittingtheEarthfromspace,changesinsealevels,thedecreaseoftheoxygencontentoftheseaandglobalwarming.ManyscientistssaywearenowenteringtheEarth’ssixthmassextinction.Thistime,humanactivitywillbetoblame.
