IhopethathewillbeasuccessfulpresidentforallAmericans.Thisisnottheoutcomewewantedorweworkedsohardfor,andI'msorrywedidnotwinthiselectionforthevaluesweshareandthevisionweholdforourcountry.

ButIfeelprideandgratitudeforthiswonderfulcampaignthatwebuilttogether.Thisvast,diverse,creative,unruly,energizedcampaign.YourepresentthebestofAmerica,andbeingyourcandidatehasbeenoneofthegreatesthonorsofmylife.

Iknowhowdisappointedyoufeel,becauseIfeelittoo.AndsodotensofmillionsofAmericanswhoinvestedtheirhopesanddreamsinthiseffort.Thisispainful,anditwillbeforalongtime.ButIwantyoutorememberthis.

Ourcampaignwasneveraboutoneperson,orevenoneelection.ItwasaboutthecountryweloveandbuildinganAmericathatishopeful,inclusive,andbig-hearted.Wehaveseenthatournationismoredeeplydividedthanwethought.ButIstillbelieveinAmerica,andIalwayswill.Andifyoudo,thenwemustacceptthisresultandthenlooktothefuture.DonaldTrumpisgoingtobeourpresident.Weowehimanopenmindandthechancetolead.Ourconstitutionaldemocracyenshrinesthepeacefultransferofpower.

Wedon'tjustrespectthat.Wecherishit.Italsoenshrinestheruleoflaw;theprincipleweareallequalinrightsanddignity;freedomofworshipandexpression.Werespectandcherishthesevalues,too,andwemustdefendthem.

Youcrisscrossedthiscountry,even4-month-oldAidan,whotraveledwithhismom.Iwillalwaysbegratefultothetalented,dedicatedmenandwomenatourheadquartersinBrooklynandacrossourcountry.

Youpouredyourheartsintothiscampaign.Tosomeofyouwhoareveterans,itwasacampaignafteryouhaddoneothercampaigns.Someofyou,itwasyourfirstcampaign.Iwanteachofyoutoknowthatyouwerethebestcampaignanybodycouldhaveeverexpectedorwanted.

Andtothemillionsofvolunteers,communityleaders,activistsandunionorganizerswhoknockedondoors,talkedtotheirneighbors,postedonFacebook—eveninsecretprivateFacebooksites.

Iwanteverybodycomingoutfrombehindthatandmakesureyourvoicesareheardgoingforward.

Toanyonethatsentcontributions,evenassmallas$5,thatkeptusgoing,thankyou.Toallofus,andtotheyoungpeopleinparticular,Ihopeyouwillhearthis—Ihave,asTimsaid,IhavespentmyentirelifefightingforwhatIbelievein.

I'vehadsuccessesandsetbacksandsometimespainfulones.Manyofyouareatthebeginningofyourprofessional,public,andpoliticalcareers—youwillhavesuccessesandsetbackstoo.

Thislosshurts,butpleaseneverstopbelievingthatfightingforwhat'srightisworthit.

Andsoweneed—weneedyoutokeepupthesefightsnowandfortherestofyourlives.Andtoallthewomen,andespeciallytheyoungwomen,whoputtheirfaithinthiscampaignandinme:Iwantyoutoknowthatnothinghasmademeprouderthantobeyourchampion.

Now,Iknowwehavestillnotshatteredthathighestandhardestglassceiling,butsomedaysomeonewill—andhopefullysoonerthanwemightthinkrightnow.

艾瑪聯(lián)合國(guó)演講TodaywearelaunchingacampaignHeForShe.Iamreachingouttoyoubecauseweneedyourhelp.Wemusttrytomobilizeasmanymenandboysaspossibletobeadvocatesforchange.Wedon’tjustwanttotalkaboutit.Wewanttotryandmakesureit’stangible.IwasappointedasGoodwillAmbassadorforUNWomen6monthsago.ThemoreIspokeaboutfeminism,themoreIrealizedthatfightingforwomen’srightshastoooftenbecomesynonymouswithman-hating.IfthereisonethingIknowforcertainisthatthishastostop.Fortherecord,feminismbydefinitionisthebeliefthatmenandwomenshouldhaveequalrightsandopportunities.Itisthetheoryofpolitical,economicandsocialequalityofthesexes.WhenIwas8,IwascalledbossybecauseIwantedtodirectaplaywewouldputonforourparents.Whenat14,Istartedtobesexualizedbycertainelementsofthemedia.At15,mygirlfriendsstarteddroppingoutofsportsteamsbecausetheydidn’twanttoappearmasculine.At18,mymalefriendswereunabletoexpresstheirfeelings.IdecidedthatIwasafeminist.Thisseemeduncomplicatedtome.Butmyrecentresearchhasshownmethatfeminismhasbecomeanunpopularword.Womenarechoosingnottoidentifyasfeminists.Apparently,[women’sexpressionis]seenastoostrong,tooaggressive,isolating,andanti-men,unattractiveeven.Whyhasthewordbecomesuchanuncomfortableone?IthinkitisrightIampaidthesameasmymalecounterparts.IthinkitisrightthatIshouldbeabletomakedecisionsaboutmyownbody.Ithinkitisrightthatwomenbeinvolvedonmybehalfinthepoliciesanddecisionsthatwillaffectmylife.Ithinkitisrightthatsocially,IamaffordedthesamerespectasmenButsadly,Icansaythatthereisnoonecountryintheworldwhereallwomencanexpecttoseetheserights.Nocountryintheworldcanyetsaythattheyachievedgenderequality.TheserightsareconsideredtobehumanrightsbutIamoneoftheluckyones.

Mylifeisasheerprivilegebecausemyparentsdidn’tlovemelessbecauseIwasbornadaughter.MyschooldidnotlimitmebecauseIwasagirl.Mymentorsdidn*tassumethatIwouldgolessfarbecauseImightgivebirthtoachildoneday.TheseinfluencesarethegenderequalityambassadorsthatmademewhoIamtoday.Theymaynotknowitbuttheyaretheinadvertentfeministsneededintheworldtoday.Weneedmoreofthose.

Ifyoustillhatetheword,itisnotthewordthatisimportant.ItistheideaandtheambitionbehinditbecausenotallwomenhavereceivedthesamerightsIhave.Infact,statistically,veryfewhave.In1997,HillaryClintonmadeafamousspeechinBeijingaboutwomen’srights.Sadly,manyofthethingsthatshewantedtochangearestilltruetoday.Whatstruckmethemostwasthatlessthan30%oftheaudienceweremale.Howcanweeffectchangeintheworldwhenonlyhalfofitisinvitedorbeingwelcomedtoparticipateintheconversation?

Men,Iwouldliketogivethisopportunitytoextendyourformalinvitation.Genderequalityisyourissue,too.Becausetodate,I’veseenmyfather’sroleasaparentbeingvaluedlessbysociety.I’veseenyoungmensufferingfrommentalillness,unabletoaskforhelpforfearitwouldmakethemlessofaman.Infact,intheUK,suicideisthebiggestkillerofmenbetween20to49,eclipsingroadaccidents,cancerandheartdisease.I’veseenmenfragileandinsecurebywhatconstitutesmalesuccess.Mendon’thavethebenefitsofequality,eitherWedon’toftentalkaboutmenbeingimprisonedbygenderstereotypesbutIcanseethattheyare.Whentheyarefree,thingswillchangeforwomenasanaturalconsequence.Ifmendon’thavetobeaggressiveinordertobeaccepted,womenwon’tfeelcompelledtobesubmissive.Ifmendon’thavetocontrol,womenwon’thavetobecontrolled.

Bothmenandwomenshouldfeelfreetobesensitive.Bothmenandwomenshouldfeelfreetobestrong.Itistimethatweallseegenderasaspectruminsteadoftwosetsofopposingideals.Weshouldstopdefiningeachotherbywhatwearenotandstartdefiningourselvesbywhoweare.WecanallbefreerandthisiswhatHeForSheisabout.It’saboutfreedom.Iwantmentotakeupthismantlesothattheirdaughters,sistersandmotherscanbefreefromprejudicebutalsosothattheirsonshavepermissiontobevulnerableandhumantoo,reclaimpartsofthemselvestheyabandonedandindoingso,beamoretrueandcompleteversionofthemselves.
