releasedbyShanghaiEducationalTestInstitute79299studentsinShanghai
satinforthepost-graduateentranceexamsin2003adramaticriseof32.6%
overthepreviousyear.Theyearof2003isthetenthyearsincethenumberof
postgraduatetesttakersbegantogrowrapidlyandsteadily.Howeversince
thentherisinglinehasgraduallyplateauedyearbyyearwithamodestriseof
6.7%1.8%2.1%respectivelyin200420052006.In2007thenumberoftest
takersevendroppedby6.5%incomparisonwith2006.Allthesestatistics

crazeisstartingtocooloff.Threemajorfactorsaccountforthecoolingoffof
thepost-graduatecraze.Oneisthepost-graduateeducationreform.Post-
graduatestudentsusedtoenjoyamodestgovernmentsubsidyfortheirthree
yearstudies.Butaccordingtothenewgraduateprogramtheyhavetopayfor

statisticsreleasedbyShanghaiEducationalTestInstitute,79,299studentsin
Shanghaisatinforthepost-graduateentranceexamsin2003,adramaticrise
of32.6%overthepreviousyear.Theyearof2003isthetenthyearsincethe
numberofpostgraduatetesttakersbegantogrowrapidlyandsteadily.
However,sincethen,therisinglinehasgraduallyplateauedyearbyyear,with
amodestriseof6.7%,1.8%,2.1%respectivelyin2004,2005,2006.In2007,
thenumberoftesttakersevendroppedby6.5%incomparisonwith2006.All
