Welookedateachotherandknewwhatwehadtodo.Aftergatheringsometoolsandgarbage

bags,wewentstraighttoworkcleaninguptheplace.Iphonedupsomeofmyschoolfriendsand,

soonenough,ahalf-dozenpeoplewerecollectingtrashbagsandsweepingpaths.Someonehadeven

broughtbagsoffreshseedsandsoilalongwithnewflowers,soweuprooted|theolddeadplantsand

flowersandplantedanew.

Afteronlyafewhours,thecommunitygardenlookedtallychanged.Despiteourhardwork,

therewasstillthematteroftheupcomingcouncilvote.Wecreatedaplan:takephotosofthegarden

andspreadthenewsaboutthevote.Usingthephotographs,wewouldthencollectsignaturesto

showcontinuedlocalinterestandthenpresentthesetothecouncil.

severalofmyschoolfriends,arrivedearly,eachofuscarryingastackofphotosshowingthe

garden'stransformation.Themeetingroomwaspacked,andwhenitwasourturntospeak,we

sharedourstoryandpassionforpreservingthisgreence.Wepassedaroundthephotos,highlighting

thebeautyandpotentialofthegarden.Tooursurprise,severalcouncilmembersexpressedtheir

support,mentioningthattheyhadreceivednumerouscallsandemailsfromconcernedcitizens,all

thankstoourcampaign.
