Welookedateachotherandknewwhatwehadtodo.Aftergatheringsometoolsandgarbage
bags,wewentstraighttoworkcleaninguptheplace.Iphonedupsomeofmyschoolfriendsand,
soonenough,ahalf-dozenpeoplewerecollectingtrashbagsandsweepingpaths.Someonehadeven
broughtbagsoffreshseedsandsoilalongwithnewflowers,soweuprooted|theolddeadplantsand
flowersandplantedanew.
Afteronlyafewhours,thecommunitygardenlookedtallychanged.Despiteourhardwork,
therewasstillthematteroftheupcomingcouncilvote.Wecreatedaplan:takephotosofthegarden
andspreadthenewsaboutthevote.Usingthephotographs,wewouldthencollectsignaturesto
showcontinuedlocalinterestandthenpresentthesetothecouncil.
