1、Lesson 15 Fifty pence worth of trouble1. pence 1. (often in compound) pl. of pennye.g. (1) 兩便士 two-pence (2) 十一便士 eleven pence (3) 幾個便士 a few pence2. pence 便士價(jià)錢的e.g. (1) 一枚13便士的郵票 a 13-pence stamp (2) 一枚5便士的硬幣 a 5-pence piece (=coin)注:英語中的便士有兩種復(fù)數(shù)形式 pence 和 pennies ,但用法不同。如:a fifty pence 指1個50便士的硬幣fi

2、fty pennies指50個1便士的硬幣2. worth worth of 指值一定金額數(shù)量的;相當(dāng)于特定單位數(shù)量的worth 為名詞,常用介詞of搭配使用,構(gòu)成以上意義。worth n. u value 價(jià)值e.g. (1) 價(jià)值極高的寶石 jewels of great worth (2) 這場暴風(fēng)雨造成數(shù)千英鎊價(jià)值的損失。 The storm did thousands of pounds worth of damage.adj. worth1. having a value in money 有價(jià)值;值錢e.g. 我們的房子大約值10萬美元。 Our house is worth a

(指行動)值得,有價(jià)值e.g. 這是部很值得看的影片。 Its a film that is really worth seeing.antonym: worthless adj. 沒用的,無價(jià)值的3. appreciate v. 欣賞;領(lǐng)會;感激。后接名詞、代詞或動名詞,不可使用動詞不定式,如:(1) 我們當(dāng)中沒有幾個能真正欣賞京劇。Not many of us can appreciate Beijing opera.(2) 運(yùn)動員極為珍稀能有空休息一下。The players really appreciate havin

4、g time to relax.appreciate v.1. 向表示感謝,感激e.g. (1) 對你的幫助我們表示感謝。 We appreciate your help. (2) 我們非常感激在這么困難的時候有這么好的朋友。 We appreciate having such good friends at this difficult time.2. 欣賞,賞識e.g. 他們確實(shí)欣賞威爾士平和、寧靜的農(nóng)村生活。 They really appreciate the peace and quiet of rural Wales.3. (2) 你代替我去開會好不好? Will you go to the meeting instead of me?Instead 而,卻,為副詞,常用于句首或句末。用于句首時,起連接上下文的作用,通常表達(dá)出
